On the other hand Zim guys and ladies that are dominant in our neighbourhood as maids and gardeners are paid well above what locals would expect to be paid.

Look, everyone has an anecdote to share. I just find it hard to believe someone who can afford to pay more than minimum wage would choose to hire illegal immigrants over those with the right documents. One of the reasons people hire illegal immigrants is because they have little in terms of legal recourse if a dispute arises. Else there's a pool of documented immigrants to choose from.

I do not think that legal status determines if person will be hired or not, it is more of if person will come on time and do what needs to be done.
Coincidentally he has valid visa and bank account where we pay him.
