Can anyone recommend a cordless phone but I do not wish to pay the earth for it. I had a look a Telkom option (don't say it) and they have a DECT phone for 399?

My recommendations

I have had Telkom phones before and they tend to be troublesome. Support is not that great either and Telkom seem to change the models very frequently.

Panasonic are reasonable. Not sure about GE.

IMO, the best range out there are the Siemens Gigasets. I have had a few of these (at home and at my business) and I am happy with them.
The lowest in the range is the A120 (R349 at Makro).
A nicer model is the A140 - I have this - not sure how much they cost single - Makro has a set of three for R999 - nice things is that you can use them as an intercom between 3 rooms in your house.
Game also sells the Siemens range and may have the A140 with 2 handsets in a pack, and not 3.

Thanks for the info, sounds like the same price as the Telkom option....will pop into Makro sometime.

Pity no sites online where you can order it.

Was in makro yesterday and they had a few multiple handset specials going on. Have a look at their website if you havent already done so.

I've got Panasonic - very nice. And you can simply add more handsets, or even link multiple base units together. Just watch out for lightning. It took out my previous base unit, so now I've got 2 handsets (which worked out well). ;)
