Cost of changing to CellC

I want to cancel my Vodacom contract and go on a R200 straight up contract for 6 months. I'll be keeping my iPhone. Question is how much does it cost to go to cell c and keep my number + how much is your micro sims?
Please advise accordingly

you can port your number to cell c and that usually in itself doesn't cost anything, then you have to take the contract with cell c and there is usually a once off cost for the sim, i'd say +- R100 and then the cost of the contract after that which should be the R200. hope that helps

Do you still have time left on your Vodacom contract? If so, Vodacom will nail you with a huge penalty... Probably amount of months remaining x your monthly package cost. That's what I was quoted...they're ruthless.

Forget about cancelling. You took out the contract and now you need to see it through. The value that you would throw away negates the point of saving money by changing providers.

Thanks guys. No I'm up for an upgrade within the next 2 weeks so no problem cancelling. You can't beat a transparent package such as their straight up packages. Vodacom failed with their counter attack.

Just remember that date you are eligible for upgrade and the actual date the contact ends are different. In my case, I can upgrade in July, but contact ends in October. And iirc, they'll require notice. Not sure if it's 30 days or one month.

Either way I am seeing out my contract and then I am off to Cell C. I'm done with high prices and the fleecing.

Example, I asked Vodacom how much the S3 was and they told me R8,999. But I knew that's excessive. Next door Cell C wants under R8k. In Discovery I can buy it for R7,5k. Why does Vodacom have to be do stupid with their pricing? They're going to lose me and probably my wife too over their arrogance. Maybe it's just the attitude of the Cresta bunch, but they're the shop window for the company as a whole.

Then why say you're cancelling? You're just changing providers. You're usually eligible for an upgrade two months before your contract actually ends. Make sure you give notice well in advance that you're not continuing to be a customer.

I'm moving from mtn as well. I'm also done with these high prices combined with crap service.
I would pay higher if the service was good.
Cell C will be gaining quite a few customers it seems.
I have also decided to finance a phone myself and stay prepaid.
It is more expensive but the flexibility can prove to be priceless.

Why go prepaid when Cell C lets you choose any contract duration you want? Get a 6 month Straight-up contract if you anticipate needing to change things fairly soon.

Don't need to wait. As long you can afford paying two contracts, you can assign your Voda contract to a different number (freeing your number for porting) and port immediately.

Then use your Voda SIM up to the allocated limits (but no more), till contract ends.

It is beneficial if your usage exceed allocated limits.

Not many people can afford to pay for two contracts, and wouldn't the big extra cost negate the point of moving to a cheaper service provider?

I was just doing the calculations the other day on prepaid vs straight up contracts and it was very interesting.

For a straight up 100, you get 100 each for minutes, sms and data bundle: for prepaid you just need to add the R49 all-in-one voucher on top of your R100 airtime voucher and get your 100 sms's, data bundle and also get 100 Cell C to Cell C minutes. So, for a R149 prepaid airtime you get the same as a straight up contract plus the bonus of the Cell C to Cell C minutes.

For R289 (R89 all-in-one voucher included) prepaid airtime, you get 200 of all the straight up 200 contract and, again, an extra 200 Cell C to Cell C minutes.

If you already have a phone or intend to buy it outright you have a great deal either way.

I am still contemplating whether to go contract or not after looking into these prepaid costs.

I've downgraded my MTN contract to prepaid. Just need to find something to RICA with and get to a shop that sells prepaid cellc sims in order to get one, then ill go for a month to month straight up topup contract.
