Hi guys

Company got a shuttle that drives between sandton office and gautrain station

Im in bedfordview, so is it cheaper to drive to sandton cbd or park at malboro station for the day and catch the train?

Obviesly if your working in sandton but live in pretoria makes a lot of sense, but for only malboro sandton and back, as well as parking for the day?

Is it a good idea?

You'll probably find that driving is cheaper or the savings are marginal.

The real "savings" come in terms of traffic stress and having time to do other things - work, read, etc.

You will have to give it a try and see.

Will probably cost you the same either way and take you nearly the same amount of time either way.

Cost me the same (and that's with the monthly ticket discount) with the fuel to the drive to the station and took double the time (traffic to get to the station) from Pretoria East. Took 3 times as long if I tried to use the bus and not drive, only makes sense if you stay close.

And then its packed tight at rush hours.

You know what they say about manhattan, nobody drives as having a car in manhattan is a hindrance not a asset,

Im trying to think fo sandton cbd as the same, the "manhattan" of africa if you will.

But is going via gautrain, better?
Its quite pricy i should say.

Are the 7 day fares worth anything?
And parking? Any idea on a cheaper option?

Bit scared to park in alexandra township....

It's cheaper to drive the stretch from malboro to Sandton cbd. If you avoid the 7am to 9am and 3 30pm to 6pm peak then it's not all THAT bad.

I used to use the Gautrain - wasn't all that cheaper or quicker (if anything, slightly longer and more expensive!).
But then every third day on the road there would be some sort of issue, and then the train was far quicker.
So I used it as it was less wear and tear on my car, less stress, could read on the way to/ from work. And I avoided the inevitable hectic once a week traffic jam.
I didn't like those 7 day passes - it meant you had to use the train every day, you couldn't use your car for one day as you didn't get that trip back. And there were times I needed to use my car.
32 day pass was slightly better, but I still feel it shold be a 40 day pass or something like that.

The real savings come when you don't have a car and you factor that cost in.

If only there was a shuttle from the east rand to malboro, then it would work,
(There isint one i hope?)

Unfortunantly gotta drive/travel during the peak times, and that construction is bad

Last time i used the car sat moitionless for more than 1 hour, traffic really bad there.

Still deciding if its worth anything.....
