Hey guys. I'm interested in making a website and I'm currently investigating the cost of local development vs international development and what the total development cost would be. The international freelancer I'm looking at is very experienced with front and back end development as well as bootstrap (which I love, haha) and he charges $20 per hour. He's also got outstanding reviews where people say he goes the extra mile and he's got experience with SEO and security. What do local freelancers cost? I'd really like to support a great local developer. I'm not really looking for something cheap, I'm looking more for something that's fairly priced so that I know I'll get good quality work.

Depends on what you're looking to do as you may need different expertise to do it. E.g. Starter php dev vs experienced php dev you're probably looking at R350 and up to R1200 an hour.

Remember, someone good is going to be charging you Rx an hour, wether you're wanting a WordPress theme update our a custom phone app.

I firmly believe that you get what you pay for.. But lookout for sharks ;)

One of the biggest php dev houses in CT doesn't even charge R1200 an hour If being outsourced. Where do you get this number from?

I think it really boils down to the situation, the client and what you're working on for them, you telling me you never quoted R3600 for a small job that took you 2-3 hours?

R1200 per hour for PHP seems like it's feasible given the right circumstances. On long term projects though? Idk, but can i have a long job paying that if you have one.

It's all a much of a muchness.

If someone wanted a quick 15 min job I would charge a few hundred bucks. If they wanted a day or 2's worth they will get an hourly rate of about R750-R1000. Medium to long term projects can be negotiated so its beneficial for the dev but cost effective to the company.
