Hi all

Does anyone have a good estimate of how much it should be to install another network point in an office?

Small office - I'd say the cable will probably run about 10m from the switch (in the kitchen) to the office that needs another point.

TIA

By a cabling company its usually R500 a point or in the region..

To do it yourself, around R100 - R150

Why not just buy another switch, stick it out the point in the office, and have 8 more points for the price of R400?

The idea never even crossed my mind. You're an absolute legend.

Agree on the DIY route.

If you're in JHB, talk to the guys at CableLink in Randburg - if you have the exact cable length you want to route, they can maybe make up one for you, with the network plug on the one end and the network point box at the other.

Opted for connecting the existing cable into a new 5-port switch, and then running cables from the switch to serve the devices in the room. Worked like a charm without any configuration (other than physically plugging in the cables).

In a small setup this option is fine but as the network size increases this will make fault finding more difficult.
