This is no bar bet, it's a lawsuit. Can you get drunk on a flight, then sue the airline for giving you the booze?

A husband and wife are suing United Airlines for "negligently" overserving alcohol during a flight from Osaka, Japan, to San Francisco, saying the carrier's drinks fueled the domestic violence involving the two shortly after their plane landed.

Fortified with Burgundy wine allegedly supplied at 20-minute intervals by United crew members during the December 2006 trip, Yoichi Shimamoto became so inebriated "that he could not manage himself," according to a lawsuit filed Dec. 5 in U.S. District Court in Tampa.

Shimamoto was arrested, accused of disorderly conduct and battery after he struck his wife, Ayisha, six times, injuring her face and upper lip as they were heading through U.S. Customs in San Francisco, the complaint said.

Ok, so I walk into a bar, drink too much, beat my wife and then I sue the bar for giving me alcohol every time I asked for it......now that is what I call blame shifting...

LOL... this is the society of entitlement we live in. It is never my fault, it always has to be somebody else's fault or some violation of my rights. Judges need to put a stop to this craziness.

Some of the cases that went through in the USA you can't help but read it, read it again, shake your head and laugh. I mean in any other country you would end up in jail for waisting the court's time and being too bloody stupid to be on the street.

OMG this is just stupid. Only in the US would this even be an option...

This is not a criminal case but a private civil action, which is an option in most western countries -- including SA -- not just the USA. The difference is that in the USA you get your day in court, and a fair hearing. Of course it'll be dismissed with costs. And the costs in the USA are heavy.

Methinks your 'doof-US' slip is showing...

LOL no I don't have anything against the US
It's just that you always hear these absurd cases coming from there.

And I suppose you're right, the difference is they do get their day in court.

If he was not served the booze they would probably sue for some negligence of service or some rubbish. There are times when i jsut want to beat these ppl, because sometimes words cannot express the frustration i feel.....
