Courier allegedly opens parcel to steal 3 Krugerrands

1) Is this a “more money than sense” situation?
2) Is it a good time to buy KR from your dealer?
3) Is this just a promo for KR?

I cringe at the thought of losing gold without being killed first.

Unfortunately, we live in a fallen world. Crime seems to be the order of the day and we need to be a lot more circumspect.
Indeed.

I cant help but wonder what the delivery guys were thinking when they liberated those 3 Kruger Rands?
Was the receiver of the parcel not going to notice?
Is the criminal / justice system so broken that they may well get away with the heist?
Can they maybe blame Jan?

And of course, how will they dispose of these? Pull into a pawn shop?

Mmmmmm ..........

But gold coins are much more beautiful to look at. I get the biggest rush each time I get a new one for my collection. It's an even bigger rush if I find one myself while out metal detecting.
Dis you perhaps detect 3 in a BP parking lot inside a parked van?

Reactions: Wut
When I have bought KRs, I get them sent to a Cape Town dealer and pick them up from their office.

This is not the first story about KRs disappearing in transit, although the one I heard about was in 1998. This was a friend whose entire parcel disappeared. The insurance co took months to pay

Yes, this should not happen. But what about the following do people not understand

"We cannot transport coins, gold, cash or bonds" I am pretty sure 95% couriers list this as part of their conditions.

You not only risk losing your precious coins. But you also put the couriers life in danger.
Use a G4S or Leo Prinsloo or a company equipped or willing to risk high value items.

You should tell all the exchanges who have been robbed that as they don't seem to know.
Or the exchange itself is a fraud, Quadriga for example.

Bitcoin wallets are also not foolproof.

Why doesn't the courier company track the movements and stops of the vehicle, where, for how long?
Plus live in cab and loading area video cameras?
The parcel could have been tampered with while the vehicle was in motion. The problem is that SA does not have a criminal staff database. Criminals go from one company to the next, all the while commiting criminal acts, and they get of free because the cops either don't pitch up to open cases, or make the dockets go missing as the criminals are most likely friends or family or know who to pay off. It is high time that a privately funded database be established to warn prospective employers against criminal staff. Although one cannot outright call someone a criminal without that person being convicted in a court, you may still state on the database that the person in question was dismissed for theft or fraud. Only problem is, that very soon we'll sit with a database that will exclude a good 40 million + people. It's sad to see that the courier company in question is Courier Guy as I would have expect something like this to happen to Dawn Wing or DPD Laser.

To be honest who sends that kind of commodity with a courier ????.

But if they try to steal my merchandise, they will find out it is a waste of time, will cost them to much time to find a willing buyer.
Agreed, with flights as cheap as they are, it's much better (and much more fun) to just fly to JHB, pick them up from the airport, have a pint at the Airport Brewing Company and then fly back a hour or two later.

Bitcoin cannot be stolen. Use that instead.
Not in this lifetime! Although currently it is impossible to forge bitcoins, it is incredibly easy to steal them. Anything that exists as binary bits can be copied and world wide hacking attempts just goes to show how quick and easy it is to steal data. In this case forgive me for being old fashioned, but I would rather keep my data on a stiffy than invest in bitcoin.

What kind of non shady person sends krugerrands by courier?

We have SBV and G4S picking up as little as R25k cash a day from businesses in armoured vehicles, yet these guys supposedly send more than 10 times that value...by ordinary courier? I dont believe it
Not a very intelligent one by the looks of it. If you can afford to buy 9 Kruger Rands, then you can afford to fly to JHB, pick them up at the airport and then fly back again. If you schedule it right, you can fly return for less than R2000, which is far less than what he lost, or the inconvenience of losing it.
