Hmm, there was many other crimes to humanity he enacted, the theory was that he did not have to be charged with all before he is convicted as he could be charged after his death for the record. You can only kill him once anyway and once found guilty he needs to be executed asap. Thus they probably dropped the other 1000+ charges to save time and money.

Pah!!!!!! There is little in trying an dead man, but I think for his family the dropping of the charges in important. If he was wrongfully executed then his family may have some kind of damages claim against the Gov't. FOr this reason they may still try and get a guilty conviction. Dont know if it is possible, or if it is allowed in law but the Coutr may be able to decide to hear something if it is in the public interest or would advance a point of law....

Saddam Hussein was hanged after an earlier trial over the killing of 148 Shia Muslims in the town of Dujail.
This is what he was hanged for. No point in prosecuting a dead man for every other charge ;)
