Cousin cannot stop stealing from me

I am 19 and I have a 9 year old cousin who I share a room with and whenever i leave the house for more than 10 minutes i return to find something missing either from my desk or wardrobe. Most of the time i dont take it seriously and i just give him a warning and a stern look but recently he has been taking money and important gadgets that i use daily. I dont want to yell or make a fuss because it makes me look foolish and irresponsible for not putting my things away. So my question is what can i do now to stop him from stealing? becuase he refuses to heed my warnings (he takes them as a joke) or otherwise how can i make him see that his actions have an effect on those around him?

If you think your cousin just sees it as a game, tell him you're not going to be his friend anymore because friends don't take each others stuff without asking. And if it happens again ignore him and act mad. He'll buckle soon enough, say sorry and end the game.

Seriously, have a stern word with him that friends and family does not steal from each other and punish him for it. For fark sakes he is 9 and you are 19, you are his elder. Tell him until he doesn't stop stealing your things that he is not allowed in your room. When you leave, lock the door and don't let him in there even if you are in there

Wait till he's asleep then take all his clothes, stick them in a bag and hide them in the ceiling. When he asks where they are, tell him you sold them to make up for the stuff he's stolen. Do it on a Friday night so he has to spend the weekend in his PJs and panic about having to go to school in them lol.

Some families can't afford individual rooms for every dependent or even dorm/res for university aged children. If I didn't have a bursary in Uni I would have had to share with two of my cousins, one twelve years younger than me.
