Cracked my Motorola Defy's screen

My motorola faced certain death while if fell out my pocket and saw a corner first collision with the bricks... The defy lived, but has battle scars, everywhere.

The gorilla glass has shattered, but the digitizer still seems to work. Any one know how much (I can't afford an expensive fix!) it will cost to get some more gorilla glass/digitizer?

I'm bleak though :(, felt like crying...

About $20 if you feel like doing it yourself.

Replaced my old Omnia's LCD and touch-screen myself when my Omnia's LCD met the corner of a brick as well (I dodged a trolley in a parking lot, it was in my pocket facing the wrong direction) :p

It's a quick and cheap fix.

However, if your phone's still under warranty and you don't trust yourself with such things, I'd say just take it in for a quote?

*nod* The prices are very reasonable and fixing your own phone is pretty easy--there are a number of easy-to-follow guides online for specific models of phone :)

One thing though (which should be pretty obvious) make sure your order is correct (i.e. has all the parts you'd need, such as LCD, digitiser, tools, etc). You don't want to end up buying something and finding out three weeks later that it's just one part.

I ended up accidentally ordering only a touch-screen for my old Omnia before twigging on it was JUST the touch-screen. Fortunately I was able to cancel from the seller and order a touch-screen AND LCD and tools for about $25 including shipping. A pretty great deal if you consider that's only about R225 and having it fixed locally would probably have cost much more.

Only issue I had was that the screwdriver wasn't small enough for some of the screws, so had to buy one of those tiny screwdriver sets. Worked like a charm though :3

where do they deliver to? My PO BOX? I'm just a little worried about sending money to somewhere and not getting any products :erm:

They delivered to my PO Box, yes :)

Well, that's a risk you take anywhere. However, they're often prepared to ship another product if you haven't received yours in 30- or 60-odd days. Just go with a reputable seller.

Also, if you use PayPal you'll get buyer protection so... you know, it's your choice :p

You should order the front housing of the Defy as well. The gorilla glass is stuck on with hectic glue to keep the phones waterproof. The digitiser is much more tricky to fix than most phones.

If you get the digitiser +front housing it's a 5 minute job and not too expensive from eBay. If you go for just the digitiser remember to order adhesive strips as well.

Well, the just the glass is broken. So I don't really know what to order? I can still use the phone? So what do i do?? :(

Also just check a few local cell shops- my screen is R250 from ebay and R300 for Cell C to fix it, so for me its not really worth while doing it myself

I'll check it out, thing is though, Motorola don't repare phones... So I don't wanna have some nigerian around the corner order faulty parts to replace my broken stuff...It's happened to me before where I was charged for original phone cover, only to get a knock off part, that broke.

Also, I really love gorilla glass (even though I had scratched it prior to the phones fall... I don't have luck with phones :p), and if I get plastic I know it'll be scratched to bits in a month.
I want my phone to be back to it's former glory! I might be in the red financially now, but I will still want original parts!

why not take it in to where you bought it and get a quote before just assuming its gonna cost alot? you may be pleasantly surprised :)

I took it into mtn, they said that they don't know how long it will take to give me a quote, nor can they give me a price range... So I'm not going to take the risk of them taking a couple weeks from me!

So I went to another cell shop, they don't have parts!

I think I'm going to do the deed and order the front housing! Wish me luck!

Looks like I'm not the only one having troubles with my Motorola Defy.
I finally went for option 2 and repaired it myself for 15$.
Additionally I spent another 15$ and did http://www.motoroladefy.eu in order to bring a bit of awareness about this phone's fragility.
My phones works great again and I still save 120$ compared to Motorola's 150$ offer

I'm living in China, brought a second hand one (looks brand new though) 38RMB, its like R43.

Then got myself some screwdrivers and replaced it.

If you able to get the parts yourself, replacing it is a piece of cake (easier than an iphone 4)
