Her.

And I gave her the option of Kenya or Ethiopia. I even gave her a ticket to Singapore which she didn't use so she asked me to instead send her anywhere nice. And now she bitches and moans about it. God, there's no pleasing some people...

There are no women on the internet.
So I heard, anyway. :D

Though if I think about it, I would probably love to live inside Dropbox. I could go in and never come back out again. I'd be safe forever.

R1 is such an odd number..do you think the cons processed that amount just to check if the card was successfully cloned and usable? Generally you wouldn't get a notification for such a small amount!

Also, I'm pretty sure but going to double check tomorrow when I get to work but the slip that the merchant keeps has your whole card number printed on it...all someone needs to do is memorize the ccv and they are good to go. I noticed this many moons ago when chip cards were not being used as much..might have changed now but will definitely check all my merchant slips tomorrow.

Wow thats crazy, i have scratched my CCV off the back of my card though so good luck with that ;) Will be interested to know if they do indeed have the full front number, its normally just the 1st and last 4 i think.

Yep I know, I still mentioned to my colleague when I noticed it..however, with the new chip cards it may be different as you dont need to sign the slip too...today I received payments with both chipped and non chipped cards so will check both.

Yet another credit card skimmed... I don't even know how, since this card is never ever used for online purchases.

Got a call yesterday from Discovery asking about a transaction on my account - 17 cents to dropbox. Very WTF. This is the card that I only use to purchase groceries.

While I was on the call, another transaction for R1 to Paypal went off. The 17c was just an authorisation, whereas the R1 went through. Card's been blocked. They required that I file a dispute for the R1.

Has this happened to anyone else? It's a bit random...

EDIT: No chip on this card.

I use VCpay, a virtual credit card app on my cell, recently every time I wanted to use the card a $1 or EU1 or R1 was reserved and then again reversed or rejected. On query I found out that many online payment engines now do that to check if it's a legit credit card before processing the card for the actual purchase. You are supposed the get that X1 back as they automatically reverse the "test" value.

Might it have anything to do with the recent security breach at PayGate?
Though Nedbank did sort all clientele out

In my line of work, I see c/card fraud all the time and its not uncommon for small purchases to be made first.
They're (the fraudsters) kinda feeling the card out to see if the purchase will get rejected - if it goes through - they'll push through a few more at that amount and then go up incrimentally.
They'll either take your card's daily limit down in this small manner or just "go for gold" and whack it up hard after the first couple of successful transactions.

I don't deal with transactions to PayPal though.
At least with them - as the victim, you've got some good assurances.

Just confirmed, all slips held by the merchant has the full card number and expiry date...non-chipped cards include the card-holders name! All thats needed is the ccv and one corrupt teller taking note of ccv's and big spending spree on the horizin!

She said merchant slip - iow the slip that the retailer keeps. Remember, it prints out 2 copies. One for the business and one for you.

I was relaxing at home on 1 Jan when I got an sms that I just filled up my car in Benoni somewhere...so my Garage Card was cloned. Also stopped it via the fraud line and bank says I will get the money back. Now I also just wonder where the card was cloned, I only filled up at 2 garages in December so it's one of the 2...and obviously I wouldn't want to fill up at the garage that cloned the card again...

Thanks for - didn't get that she meant the slip the shop keeps :)
Yep, Millennia is right..your slips only have the last few numbers and no other info...the slip you leave in the hands of who ever is processing your transaction has all your card details bar your ccv. Today just to check, it literally took me 2 secs to flip a card and note the ccv. Customer was none the wiser. :)

Re: credit

My credit card on FNB got cloned somewhere. ****ers made a 5k order online which went off my card. I only notices 3 weeks later. Called FNB card fraud filled out a form they sent. Had my money back in about 2 weeks or less I think. Guys tried to use the card again and I got a call from the bank, but they said not to worry because it's cancelled

It was a chip card by the way.

So I this evening I get an SMS on the phone saying a credit card transaction has gone off. Definitely wasn't me.

I called the bank call center. Card was blocked immediately and new card ordered. Then I was transferred to the fraud division. I was told that they would send me documentation in a few days and I need to complete and return for the bank to do an investigation.

The transaction was done online and its a travel company.

Been out for dinner recently?

There has been a big increase in ATM fraud and CC skimming in the last few weeks, especially in Jozi. I know of 4 people affected so far. They took 26k from a colleague between paying and arriving home.

And heres the kicker: There are merchants for which you don't even need the CCV. I'd post an example but meh - pretty sure some crook is reading this thread too.

Actually, yes. On Thursday night I tried out a new restaurant that opened near my home.

Another Nedbank card with fraudulent transaction today. Actually, the replacement of the one I mentioned in the OP.
This time, I seem to have bought some ridiculously expensive ugly handbag from the UK.

Have you bought anything online with it? Maybe you have spyware on your PC...
