Another Nedbank card with fraudulent transaction today. Actually, the replacement of the one I mentioned in the OP.
This time, I seem to have bought some ridiculously expensive ugly handbag from the UK.

Would be very liber8-ing not to have credit cards ;)

Have you bought anything online with it? Maybe you have spyware on your PC...

Nope. Not the card I usually use for online transactions. And a different computer now too :)
I'm trying to recall if there's supposed to be some added online password security for MasterCard transactions which they force you to set up, and how they transacted without that pin and password (I know I don't remember it...)

I love having credit cards, actually. I'm terrible with remembering to draw cash. As long as you're not spending recklessly, I think transacting on a credit card is preferable to transacting on a debit card ( where they'd be taking my money if they skimmed it...). Plus the incentive schemes mean I get something back for spending money i'd be spending anyway.
Credit cards are good if you're smart about using them :)

Just happened to me a couple of days ago. I'm always very careful when handing my card over at shops/restaurants, yet somehow someone was able to book 2 airline tickets on my credit card. Stopped card. Called Mango and Comair to cancel and refund. They both employ a couple of full time fraud investigators. Apparently it's done by syndicates. Whoever got your details in the first place, sells it to a syndicate, who buys tickets on your card and then sells them on to another poor guy... They airlines work with the banks and police to try and stop the syndicates, because there is no use arresting the person who pitches up at the airport.

I have, of course, blocked the card. Now I need to go in and complete the paperwork and wait for my money to be refunded.

Anyone been through this experience with Nedbank? Know how long they take to process this and refund my money? They seem very reluctant to give a timeline on the phone...

And can they trace it back to where it was skimmed? I'd be really interested to know who, when and how, since I never let my cards out of my sight and this one has a chip.

You don't need a chip to book a flight online.

Airlines take the risk with this... but anyway you need your ID to get on the plane so they should be able to track these guys.

Check my post above yours. The person that arrives at the airport has no knowledge of the card fraud. Buys the ticket through some dodgy non existent travel agent, run by a CC fraud syndicate.
