Credit Card with low or no fees?

I currently have an FNB Gold credit card with a 20k limit which I keep in case of emergency. I probably use it to make a handful of online purchases a year and settle it immediately but don't see the justification for the annual fees (almost R300pa now).

Can anyone recommend a credit card supplier where there are minimal or zero fees? Like I said, I hate credit but want to keep a CC in case of a medical emergency one day...

EDIT: I see Virgin Money offer zero annual card fees - anyone use them?

Not bad if you consider Investec accounts are R300pm.

I wonder what the virtual creditcard fees are like

No AVS on virtual cards...so pretty crap in my experience regardless of cost.

You're running a 300pm card for backup / occasional online purchase? wow...

Also...how the hell is a gold card 300pm? To get anywhere near 300 you'd need to be on some kind of grad / private banking service in which case they'd issue a plat card.

Regardless...to answer your question...VirginM is very popular with the local crowd yes and seems to work out well as long as you always pay it off 100%.

See for yourself - 12x R28 = R336pa

I use virgin for the exact reason you mentioned above.

Great! I just applied online for one of their cards - will kill off my FNB Gold card tomorrow as the annual card fee is due in a few days so I will be able to avoid it.

Virgin were very eager to give me a massive credit facility - scaled it back as it is just for emergencies...

My Absa credit card would cost me R20pm (R240pa) if I had to pay for it, but I get it for free with my bundle, and I have a massive overdraft available (I declined the size and took something much smaller). No normal usage fees attached.

Just phoned and cancelled my FNB Gold CC and the guy put in a lot of effort to try and stop me. Eventually, with a big sigh, he asked if I am moving to Virgin Money which I said yes to. Told him an annual card fee is no longer acceptable.

Virgin Money - no fees, no gimmicks.

Best part is I had an ABSA credit card a few years ago and they were charging monthly wheres VMCC is underwritten by ABSA but has no fees. Lady also gave me the spiel of trying to get me not to cancel, she even offered me the ABSA card free, but I said no as I shouldn't have to want to cancel before they give me benefits.

I have a platinum cheque card for the extra's (travel insurance, slow lounge access etc) and I only want a CC as an emergency backup. Virgin CC makes sense for this. I should've killed my FNB CC a long time ago and moved across. Was looking through my last 12 months of CC usage - mostly used by my wife for medical payments and then used the credit until Discovery paid our claims back which we settled back into the CC immediately.

Been with Virgin for 6 years now. Will probably stick with them for another 6.
