I reckon Vaughan Van Jaarsveld (Bizhub Lions) is a talent we should be nurturing to become a future Protea. Very impressive batsman and not sure why he is batting so low down the order though, relative to his talents that is. His temperament is right for One Dayers and 20/20 cricket IMO, but he needs to calm down a bit if he's to have a stab at a place in the test team.

Mbalathi (Titans bowler) also looks pretty impressive. Tall seamer, with a good action and puts the ball in the right spots more often than not. South African cricket is synonymous with good seamers and since Pollie left, we haven't really produced much (apart from Dale Steyn) in this respect and he has left a major void in the bowling department.

Which players do you reckon are future Proteas?

I have to admit to having lost touch with the whole domestic cricket scene, so I would not be able to comment. It is worrying though that there seems to be so little real talent around (or is it just not being discovered and nurtured?). If you look at rugby you could probably pick a minimum two Springbok teams that would compete at the top level... in cricket I am not so sure...

He looked really good last year as well. I also second your vote for van Jaarsveld, he's looking good again today!

I also think Bodi can have great potential

We've been producing decent batsmen over the past few years, but are sorely lacking in the bowling department IMO. But just take a look at global cricket at the moment - how many n00bs would you say remind you of a Tendulkar, or a McGrath, or a Pollock (pick one), or Sobers etc. They are few and far between and I haven't seen many who show signs of becoming greats. The best talent I've seen outside of SA lately is probably Phil Jacques (Aussie). I think we have a real talent in Dale Steyn, but then a massive talent-gap thereafter. Nobody in the domestic league is capable of bowling consistently, let alone at break-neck pace like Steyn can. Morne Morkel is pretty quick as well, but very unreliable. We need to nurture another Pollock though IMO - someone who understands batting and bowling inside out, and can consistently put the ball in the right spots...

I haven't seen him - check out the team sheet and post his name here if you think he's a mentionable talent...

Jean Symes looks promising as well. And I would love to see Bodi given a run again. And Bosman should learn to play the short ball if he wants to really get into the ODI side. He seems to have secured his place in the Pro20 team.

Yip thats the kid!!! What are your views on him?
Haven't seen him bowl yet, Cobras for some reason haven't played a MTN domestic game yet, other teams have played 3 already. When their game is aired on tv I'll take a look ;)

Yusuf Abdullah

Great Left Hand Pace Bowler

When he first came onto the scene about 3 years back. he was a very fat and unfit bowler who was bowling just over 120.... but last season he came back after being told that if he didnt get fit, he would never play again for his franchise.... he is now very fit and bowling around 135!!!!

A success story if u ask me and we dont have enough left arm seamers in franchise cricket, so i think he will get his chance sometime soon
