would be interesting to see a list of all the reviews and how they went.

Yeah, would be quite interesting :) I know that AB De Villiers was very successful...I think the commentators mentioned 2 days ago that he'd only got one wrong out of the 5 or 6 referrals he had made. Broad on the other hand...

Something that I haven't seen mentioned yet but how brilliant a tactical decision was it from Smith to bring Duminy on to bowl to clean up the tail? 11 balls and two wickets. He could so easily just have stuck with Morkel and Steyn! ;)

its kinda obvious imho, with an older ball a spinner is more likely to take 2-3 wickets on the tail especially if they are under pressure

Yip, of course it is obvious..... especially when the seamers have been lethal thus far and you hadn't even thrown the ball to Kallis yet. He could have brought himself on to bowl and he would not be given credit for making the decision...

well, it wasn't a difficult decision, I still don't believe he is the right man for the job, his a great batsman, got solid hands in the field, but has never really shown his worth in a test series that matter (maybe in Aus I can give him a bit)

He is far too one dimensional imho and it will cost us again.

Probably just so that the bowlers could swop ends.

Lance he had stuck with morkel and steyn hense why we could never get the wicket :D.

So maybe he is learning 5 years into his captaincy or whatever :D.

Quite the contrary. Some are saying JP should bowl a lot more...

I tested the waters and pretty much got the expected responses. The joy of being a national captain.

I am just saying that smith needs to throw out the the book and think for himself.

He is a great opener, awesome leader but he does things by the book far to often for my liking.

Botha returns to Test squad
2010-01-18 18:26

Johan Botha (Gallo Images)

Johannesburg - Johan Botha has been brought back into the Proteas’ Castle Test squad for the first time since the 2008 tour of Bangladesh for next month’s tour of India.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener Mike Procter on Monday named the respective 15-man squads for the Test match and ODI segments of the tour. The Proteas leave for India on January 30 and will play two tests and three ODIs.

“It is important to have a second specialist spin bowling option for a Test series on the Asian sub-continent,” commented Procter. “We feel this squad covers all our tactical options and will give a good account of itself.”

Big hitting opening batsman Loots Bosman has been recalled to the Standard Bank ODI squad following his brilliant comeback in the Standard Bank International Pro20 against England when he made 94 and helped Graeme Smith share a world record opening partnership.

Bosman represented South Africa at the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup but has only returned to full fitness this summer after a succession of injuries.

“We feel that Bosman gives us an explosive hitting option up front and this will be the ideal opportunity for him to show his worth on the sub-continent where next year’s World Cup will be played.

“There are several players who are unlucky not to make the ODI squad including Hashim Amla, Ryan McLaren and Charl Langeveldt and I must emphasise that they are all still in the running for the World Cup next year,” Procter added.

Castle Test squad: Graeme Smith (Nashua Cape Cobras, capt), Hashim Amla (Nashua Dolphins), Johan Botha (Chevrolet Warriors), Mark Boucher (Chevrolet Warriors), AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans), JP Duminy (Nashua Cape Cobras), Paul Harris (Nashua Titans), Jacques Kallis (Chevrolet Warriors), Ryan McLaren (Chevrolet Diamond Eagles), Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans), Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors), Alviro Petersen (bizhub Highveld Lions), Ashwell Prince (Chevrolet Warriors), Dale Steyn (Nashua Titans), Lonwabo Tsotsobe (Chevrolet Warriors).

Standard Bank ODI squad: Graeme Smith (Nashua Cape Cobras, capt), Loots Bosman (Nashua Dolphins), Johan Botha (Chevrolet Warriors), Mark Boucher (Chevrolet Warriors), AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans), JP Duminy (Nashua Cape Cobras), Herschelle Gibbs (Nashua Cape Cobras), Jacques Kallis (Chevrolet Warriors), Albie Morkel (Nashua Titans), Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans), Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors), Alviro Petersen (bizhub Highveld Lions), Dale Steyn (Nashua Titans), Lonwabo Tsotsobe (Chevrolet Warriors), Roelof van der Merwe (Nashua Titans).

Looks like Botha will replace Smith as captain soon :)

I read and reread the article you posted and could not find the confirmation of your assertion. Please could you point it out?

Further to this let's not, again, confuse test cricket and ODIs.
