As much as I'm a fan of Loots, his way of playing is very predictable. When its full, he goes over cover or mid-off. When short, its the pull shot. I watched a lot of Eagles games, and when its pitched back of a length consistantly, he begins to panic and does something stupid.

Amla, although a LOT slower, is a better bet at opening. I'm still not convinced with Kallis opening.

Good thing the English didn't know that:D.

What do you mean who would we be dropping? nobody because gibbs is not in the team so bosman can slot in there.

Sadly comparing Gibbs and bosman is a bit silly.

Amla opening? Geez well that should get us 40 off the first 15 if smithers goes early. Amla and kallis

Trouble with south africa is they want 5 day players in a 50 over match. FFS gibbs only came off once every 5 or 6 games yet he played every single ODI if he was fit.

Bosman to replace gibbs with nobody being dropped other than gibbs.

IIRC, Gibbs did not make the squad for the first 3 games. The only person that COULD, be dropped is Amla.

But I'm sure if he does not post a good innings in the first 3 games, Bosman is in. And it also depends on how Gibbs does in the SA "A" Side.

Yikes amla or bosman, must be an easy choice for selectors but being SA Amla will get the go :(.

Definitely not a fair comparison considering the number of matches played by each.

Edit: Wow, Bosman is 32:eek: I thought he was much younger than that .

Was referring to their first class and domestic careers as well. Gibbs is inconsistent but bosman is more inconsistent. The guy should be in the 20/20 team but not the odi side.

My side for the first odi would be:

1.Smith
2.Kallis
3.AB
4.JP
5.Peterson ( not a big fan but the likes of vandiar, rossouw and elgar aren't ready yet)
6.Morkel(Batting all rounder not a bowling one imho and needs to bat higher)
7.Boucher
8.McClaren
9.Van der Merwe
10. Steyn
11.Langeveld

When parnell is fit again it will be between him, langeveld and mcclaren for two spots.

I am opting for van der merwe ahead of botha. Since he can't bolw his ****ra anymore he has become predictable.

I think this is a very balanced side. You have 6 bowling options(7 if you include JP) and you bat down to number 9. Kallis is an opener is a question mark but he has batted at number 3 in odi's all his career so he has faced the new ball a lot. Smith is an attacking player anyway so that should help kallis.

Gibbs?:erm:

Look at the team below and tell me again who are we dropping?

7.Boucher
8.McClaren
9.Van der Merwe
10. Steyn
11.Langeveld

I would send albiein at 5 and drop mclaren for parnell whenhe recovers.

Kallis showed that he is more than able to open in the pro20s. He is fitter than ever and with him there smith can be a bit more attacking. The same goes for anyone coming in afterwards.

Hi All

A strange question, does anyone know if one of Paul Harris parents is South African or are they both Zimbabwean.

Thanks

Does anyone know if the SA "A" with England is televised? Should be a cracker of a game.

SA "A" 120/1 (21.3 Overs)

They going well, with Gibbs and Vaughn Van Jaarsveld in next.

EDIT: As I typed the above Roussouw was run out. :(

Good effort from Kuhn to guide the side to 279/9. One of the top 5 really should have gotten a bigger score especially puttick but still a good effort. If I were an english fan I would be worried about that bowling attack.

Don't think any of the a team bowlers would have done much to worry those in the main side. Best bowler was Dean Elgar and he rarely bowls for the eagles. The others were very very poor looking at the scorecard and run rates.

The lack of bowling depth is starting to worry me. I mean nobody in the team, really stands out as the "next big thing".

Our batting depth seems fine. Boucher seems to have some serious competition for his place from Kuhn.

They pop up from nowhere :D

And Parnell and Steyn are good to go for another 2 - 3 years.

M Morkel is another young guy.

We are going to miss Kallis the day he retires... He always gives you a better than average bowling option for 1st or second change.

You guys are bit harsh, remember Steyn was dropped when he first started. Plus dont forget besides Gibbs that side was very inexperienced even by List A standards compared to that English side.

SA A side: 886 list A games played (This includes 374 from 1 player - Gibbs)
England side: 1415 list A games played

Plus we didnt exactly get hammered
