Dew is a big factor in night games. Rule of thumb generally is win the toss and bowl first. Good thing we play some of the qualifiers first; games we 'should' win. Two wins from our first three games (maybe 3 from 3 if we pitch against Australia) should be a nice confidence boost early on in the tournament.

Our odds of winning 8/9 - 1. Might place a bet on us India (3.5-1) and Aus (5-1)

Those who played the SA20 last season should have received invites.

Seems like international cricket is pretty much dying and franchise cricket is the future. Contrary to the traditionalists, I don't think it's totally a bad thing. The game was bound to evolve.

The days of SA producing 100 cap test players may be over. Rabada may be the last to get there if he does.

This is the world cup thread, take your random and boring comments to another thread please.

so lets see:

7 October 2023 10:30 cat Delhi vs Sri Lanka Should win
13 October 2023 10:30 cat Lucknow vs Australia will loose
17 October 2023 10:30 cat Dharmasala vs the Netherlands Should win
21 October 2023 10:30 cat Wankhede vs England will loose
24 October 2023 10:30 cat Wankhede vs Bangladesh should win
27 October 2023 10:30 cat Chennai vs Pakistan will loose
1 November 2023 10:30 cat vs New Zealand will loose
5 November 2023 10:30 cat Eden Gardens vs India will loose
10 November 2023 10:30 Admenebad vs Afghanistan should win

So if we finish the group stage with more than 4 wins I will be happy.
our bowling line up is not suited for those conditions.
our fielding is not where it needs to be.
our batting line up is not deep enough
our openers are way to hit or miss.

lets be real. there is not going to be any easy wins for this squad.
even Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan could beat us given good performances by spinners. and only QDK and Klaasen can really deal with spinners. maybe if RvvD has a chance to get settled he could be OK.

Maybe Nortjie and KG can drag us back when the batting collapses.
Honestly this year is the worst team we have sent to a tournament since I can remember, and I cant think of anyone that I think deserves to be there that isnt. Brevis isnt ready yet.
on the plus side, at least we wont choke this year.
I would nothing more than to be proven wrong on everything I said. and I will watch the games if I remember, and find a nice way to watch them on my TV stick.
its a rebuilding phase that is never going to end for the proteas. we are heading the way of Sri Lankan Cricket post 2009. lets hope I am wrong about that as well.

2019 was weaker.
This side will do better then people expect.
Disagree that only qdk & Klaassen can play spin. Both Miller and markram have improved a lot vs spin over the years.
Disagree that NZ & Pakistan are given losses. Those are 50/50 for me.

Dont think SA has ever beat Pakistan or Nz in a World Cup game before

We beat a strong Pakistan side in 92 when Jonty Rhodes became famous with his runout of Inzaman ul Haq
