On the eve of the 11th ICC Cricket World Cup, SuperSport has announced plans for the most detailed coverage of the tournament in its history.
All 49 matches at the World Cup will be broadcast live and in High Definition featuring an all-star world commentary team that includes Shaun Pollock and Pommie Mbangwa.
Among SuperSport’s analysts will be big names like Kepler Wessels, Neil Johnson, Morne van Wyk, Neil McKenzie, Robin Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Mfuneko Ngam, Monde Zondeki, Victor Mpitsang and Paul Harris.
All games featuring the Proteas will enjoy commentary in three languages – English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa – with extensive studio buildups hosted by former international HD Ackerman.
“Given recent events, there is a real buzz around the Proteas and SuperSport is unashamedly tapping into the excitement and anticipation,” explained Brandon Foot, SuperSport’s Acting CEO. “With the best technology and systems on hand, this will be the finest World Cup from a television viewpoint.”
Indeed, touch screen technology will be at the forefront of SuperSport’s analysis with augmented reality adding another layer to the coverage.
The World Cup, which starts on Saturday and concludes on March 29, will be available on multiple platforms: television, online streaming and the DStv Catch Up service with regular updates via the Blitz channel and social media.
In addition to behind-the-scenes coverage on Blitz and in build-ups, SuperSport 2 will broadcast the “Cricket World Cup Special” show on Fridays at 8pm for the duration of the tournament. It will be must-see television for cricket devotees.
Former international Mike Haysman will provide daily reports from Down Under while experienced Crystal Arnold will play the role of roving reporter, interviewing top-line guests like Mark Nicholas, Rahul Dravid, Tom Moody, Simon Doull and Ian Bishop.
