Some of the known problems at Medupi and Kusile are that the boiler height is too low for the slow-burning coal found in South Africa, which leads to a number of boiler operating problems.

No, 5600MW is correct according to the article. That's 7 units that should already be completed and commissioned. Possibly even 8 units, if you consider actual generation a criterion.

Eskom can probably justify price hikes. Thing is that just because they can doesn't mean they should. Batteries are becoming cheaper every year so they don't even have to lift a finger to price themselves out of the market and should be reducing prices to become competitive. But that's monopolistic behaviour for you.
