lol. Russia can do no wrong in your eyes, can it?
That's like you saying that Putin is evil and we must watch him closely. I don't say anything of the sort. Russia is the lesser of the evils and they are not bent on world domination.

Have the Russians said anything about the pro-Kremlin mob that took over another country's state buildings?
... and if ethnic Russians demonstrate they are a "mob", but if Ukrainians riot in Maidan and change the government, they are nice people. Do you see the irony?

Except the problem being is that a large amount of these are not locals, those who are locals are no different to the Maidan ones though i agree.

Almost as nice as Putin when he jails political opponents and censors them. :)

IMF: CRISIS A SHOCK FOR UKRAINE, "HEADWIND" FOR RUSSIA

Ukraine is facing a severe contraction in its economy due to the country's political turmoil and tension with Russia, the International Monetary Fund said Tuesday. The Washington-based crisis lender offered no estimate for Ukraine's economy in light of the crisis, in which Russia has seized and annexed the Crimean Peninsula. "Output (in Ukraine) will likely drop significantly as the acute economic and political shocks take their toll on investment and consumption," the IMF's World Economic Outlook said. "Toward the end of 2014, net exports and investment recovery should bring back moderate growth." The IMF slashed its outlook for Russian growth to 1.3 per cent for 2014, down 0.6 percentage points from its last estimate in January. The country's economy grew by a tepid 1.3 per cent last year. "The fallout from emerging market financial turbulence and geopolitical tensions relating to Ukraine are headwinds on the back of already weak activity," the IMF wrote. Last month, the IMF offered Kiev's interim authorities up to 18 billion dollars in loans over two years - to help Ukraine stave off financial collapse after months of unrest, a government collapse and the Crimea crisis. The United States and European Union in recent weeks have sought to penalize Russian authorities while offering aid and trade links to Ukraine. The Ukraine crisis has regional economic ramifications, the IMF said. "Near-term prospects in Russia and many other economies of the Commonwealth of Independent States have been downgraded, as growth is expected to be hampered by the fallout from recent developments in Russia and Ukraine and the related geopolitical risks. Investment had already been weak, reflecting in part policy uncertainty." The IMF said that "greater spillovers to activity beyond neighbouring trading partners could emerge" if further turmoil unnerves global financial markets, or if sanctions and counter-sanctions intensify. Spillover effects could come especially from "major disruptions" in the production or transportation of gas, oil or even the corn and wheat crops. Contagion could spread through trade and remittances in the real economy, as well as financial disruption. "Even in the absence of sanctions, lower growth in Russia and Ukraine could have a significant impact on neighbouring economies over the medium term," the IMF said. The crisis struck just as the Ukrainian economy had been recovering, with a "bumper harvest" and resilient private consumption that lifted the country from recession in the fourth quarter of 2013, the IMF found.

Depends what they get jailed for. Corruption, bribery, false accounting, theft ? Which one do you refer to?

And please don't mention leaders of political parties that have such a small percent of public support that they don't even bear mentioning, like Kasparov.

That's how you land up having a 2 party cockup, otherwise known as the USA. Just because they don't bear mentioning in your eyes, doesn't mean their opinion and goals are any less valid.

Kasparov was upset because they didn't include his tiny party on the voters' role.

What people don't realise is that Russia has a massive population and many parties. It wouldn't make sense to include every bitty party that has a political stance. It's impractical and Russians are not that way.

Not sure how reliable this is but i will post it anyways:
Source is the head of the military-political research in Crimea Dmitry Timchuk

Breaking news from group "Information Resistance" The group "Information Resistance", have received from our reliable sources the satisfactory confirmation of the statement of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry that the observed activity of the separatists in eastern Ukraine which has been lasting for the last three days is nothing but the beginning of the second phase of the scenario for the Russian invasion in our country. In particular, according to our information, the separatist leaders, who follow the plan of GRU* of General Headquarters of Russian Armed Forces, have been given the instructions to organize a "corridor" through the state border of Ukraine for passage of the convoys of military equipment from the Russian territory at the night of April 8th to 9th. Separatists also have received the orders to organize provocations with the casualties in the cities of the region which could be interpreted by the Russian side as "terror against the people organized by Ukrainian authorities". In addition, the coordinators of Russian GRU, who work in the region, have instructed the separatists to use gunfire weapon in case the attempts to liberate the occupied administrative buildings are taken. According to our information, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and special services are now taking the necessary measures to block the groups of the separatists. State Border Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are carrying out the activities on blocking and defense of the state border in the respective areas. *GRU – Directorate General of Intelligence of General Headquarters of Russian Armed Forces

That requires (1) caring about issues; and (2) getting up.

And being able to lift their bingo wings.

I'd like to amend my previous post, I wouldn't mind seeing some of our MPs take a few punches in the face.

UKRAINE SEPARATISTS RELEASE HOSTAGES

Ukraine's Security Service says all but four of 60 people it said were being held hostage by armed separatists inside the agency's local headquarters in the eastern city of Luhansk have been released.

The Luhansk security services building was among several government offices seized by pro-Russian groups Sunday in an escalation of protests against the interim government in power since the ouster of President Viktor Yanukovych in February.

As of Wednesday morning, protesters in Luhansk had erected high barricades along a thoroughfare running in front of the security service premises. The protesters say they want autonomy for their region - a demand similar to one that preceded Crimea's annexation by Russia.

All the cities affected by recent unrest are in Ukraine's industrial heartland, along the border with Russia.
