I am currently starting a new business and have been looking at getting crowd funding. Any preferred sites. Any advice, suggestions etc.
The good, bad, ugly.

trying to crowdfund the start of a business is going to be an uphill battle at best.

the reason why crowdfunding works is because it is usually centered around a product that people might want/need that solves a particular problem or enhances their lives in some way.

so in terms of crowdfunding a product (that will essentially kick-start the business), sure. But if you mean business as in "i want to start a retail shop selling clothes" or some form of consultancy or services, then your approach in finding investors is slightly wrong.

I'm not putting money into anything without knowing what the business is.

Stop being so negative 'erebody. This damsel needs our help. Surely we can assist at least with some leads?

Here I'll start:

http://www.fundfind.co.za/

Sorry OP I have no experience with any of these. Or crowdfunding at all tbo. But what I do have is a particular set of skills. And a soft shoulder to lean on if you need a good cry. Or release. Or whatever. Im amenable like that.

I have the research and its definitely a form of donation as opposed to investment.
You have to put your product out there with a video and then people basically give you money with no demand of return on investment.
As a gift you offer the product to your donators.

by the looks of it - the businesses are pretty varied.
from "i wanna make a movie"
"i want a truck to deliver gas"
"i need a deposit on an office"
All sorts
