Crunch time for affordable mobile communications in South Africa - Alan Knott-Craig

While it is all clever marketing talk he does have a point.
The profits being made by the top two providers are just crazy.

At least he's being honest about his hand in what is happening right now.

Where was this honesty when he was working for big red/blue shortly after he stepped down then an article he wrote appeared in M&G.

In this country we don't get any benefits when taken out a contract. Example unlimited talk minutes, having peace of mind not worrying about a bill shocker come month-end and in other countries they get cable/satellite television part of their package..

The monopoly needs to come to an end! Already the infrastructure in place has been repaid over and over, and over!.

Amazing... VC and MTN enjoyed 15 years of termination rates in their favour with Telkom... now that the shoes on the other foot they are crying foul! So happy I don't use any of their products.

I believe that 1 April 2014 could prove to be almost as significant as 1 April 1994 – both pivotal moments in the history of our industry and our country.

Can't they like add a day and make it 2 April 2014. Seriously you can't get anything done on 1 April, not in today's time.

Wow!One of 3 points that stood out for me...I like.

the second ten years of the industry appears to have been more about reaping extraordinary profit than about telecommunications.

Is AKC suddenly gaining a conscience?

Like Rocket-Boy says, this is all rhetoric. If he was at VC still he would be defending the current MTRs.

I hope he recovers, but I also hope he takes his illness as a sign that he should stay out of the industry. While he has obviously done well and has a wealth of experience, we need new fresh thinkers right now.

Thanks AKC, for the words of wisdom. As a staunch critic, I respect that everyone deserves a chance to make things right. U did manage to piss off a few ppl in your days... like the whole of SA.

I hope you recover soon and kick some A$$.
