Crunch time for Ramaphosa

South African lawmakers will decide Tuesday whether to institute impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa, three days before the governing party meets to consider re-electing him as its leader.

Ramaphosa’s political future was cast into doubt on Nov. 30, when an independent panel found he may have violated the constitution because of the way he handled the theft of at least $580,000 that had been stashed in a sofa at his game farm.

He probably will survive this one. It would be a surprise if the president does not survive the impeachment motion, given the current government is an ANC-majority government.

After 2024, I can see the ruling party winning an ANC-minority government (unless SA has rules in place where a run-off election takes place if no party secures a majority... not sure if we have something like that). Motions like these, under a minority government, will have a much stronger chance of passing.

He will and is breaking his own anc rules he put in place - step aside.

Mkhize - f off because you are also under investigation as are every other anc memebr/exec.

This clowntree is fvcked no matter what.

The Great White Expelled One reckons The Ramapokker is just WMC's long term plan to regain or maintain power..

Guess I wasn't at that meeting & missed the memo, but either way, imagine he gets impeached.. the implication that the whole of parliament would look the other way for Zuma's corruption but not his.

Shame hey, great negotiator, can count, new dawn and all that jazz. Guess the people still want a spine, even if its attached to an ignorant *****.

Can we stop calling it "Cash in sofa" and use something like "Phala Phala robbery"?

Isn't there a song like that; "Is it in the sofa"?
"Wasn't me"
"Was it for the buffalo"
"Wasn't me".
etc etc repeat.
Yo
(Open up, man) What do you want, man?
(ANC just caught me) You let them catch you?
(I don't know how I let this happen) With who?
(The cash in my sofa you know) Man
(I don't know what to do) Say it wasn't you
(Alright)

ANC came in and they caught me red-handed
Creeping with the Money I stole
Picture this, there were rolls of money
Spilling out the arm rest to the door
How could I forget that I had
Given my workers an extra key
All this time the ANC caucus was there
They never took their eyes of me...
How you can give this information to the police you choppa?
The ANC control the media you're supposed to know better
You better watch your back before here comes Malema
Let's review the situation that you caused its a paina

To be a true embezzler you have to know how to play
If you steal a little, steal more when they're looking the other way
Never admit to a word when they say
And if they claim, ah, you tell them, "My Fellow South Africans, no way"
But they caught me with money on the counter (It wasn't me)
Saw me stuffing my sofa (It wasn't me)
I even had cash in the shower (It wasn't me)
They even caught me on camera (It wasn't me)
They saw the notes on my pillow (It wasn't me)
Heard the words that I told them (It wasn't me)
Heard the scream get louder (It wasn't me)
They stayed until Loadshedding was over

ANC came in and they caught me red-handed
Creeping with the Money I stole
Picture this, there were rolls of money
Spilling out the arm rest to the door

I had tried to keep the media
From what they was about to see
Why should they believe me
When I told them it wasn't me
etc..
