Hi guys,

Sorry if I sound like an idiot but I'm still a newbie on the Wifi section. I am considering joining CTWUG and getting the necessary equipment. At the moment I have a ADSL line which I use to surf the internet. Is it possible that I could keep my ADSL to surf the net and USE my WIfI for online gaming perhaps? And maybe just switch round between connections?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

The WUG gear will plug into your ADSL router. Then you will configure your router a bit, and your PC, then you can use both at the same time. The WUG is on a private IP address range... so all requests to it will be router to the WUG, and the rest, over your DSL. Good Luck. (Check out ptawug.co.za site for some docs.. it will be about the same for you )

Did you plot yourself on http://wind.ctwug.za.net/ and read http://wiki.ctwug.za.net/Getting_started ?

That is exactly what most of us do. You might need to set your home network IP static and add an additional wug IP and then add a persistent route for wug traffic.

And maybe just switch round between connections?
no need to switch connections they will work together all wug traffic to your wireless router and everything else to your default gateway (ADSL Router)

Hope to see you on the wug soon!

Thanks a lot guys. Jip read most of the stuff on the CTWUG website. Haven't done the plot thing but will do that after work tonight! I stay in Kuilsriver and read some of the forums so think I should be ok with signal and so on.

But will let you know tomorrow. I'm really serious about getting into this but I'm really gonna have a hard time setting up and configuring my PC and so on. How is the IRC chat? The guys pretty friendly towards struggling newbies?

Thanks guys!
