hmmmmm .... heard of this thing. Its a tryptan with psychedelic activity.

Depends what you treating, if you treating heroin or sugars addiction I wouldnt advise anyone taking this and stick with methadone or sabutex. The reason being with extreme opioid addiction withdrawing the opioid abruptly can be fatal.

Also you have to assess your patient, which is the biggest problem with addiction. Handling them as an outpatient is the difficult aspect handling drug abuse. A lot of these illict drugs that have curative properties are done in a controlled setting they not discharged or have a pack of the stuff at home.

A simple way to understand it is if you give a smoker a box of 30 cigs and you say "hey smoke only one cig a day" and the fellow is a chain smoker and wants to quit how long will those 30 cigs last? probably a day. Though if I take away all the cigs and say come to hospital/clinic when your widthdrawal is too extreme and I can control the amount, my treatment will obviously be more successful.

To be honest I dont know much about this ibogaine and I wouldnt bother about it until it goes through one of the 3 channels:

SAMJ
SAPJ
SAPS for abuse (LOL)

The above mentioned medical institutes are used for our facility in the event of an extreme emergency's and for the screening of our patients prior to Ibogaine treatment. Where they will require the following:- Stressed ECG, Kidney Function Test, Liver Function Test and in the case of our female patients a Pregnancy Test.

disturbing ....

it was “discovered” by hippies in the 60’s, who were pursuing the hallucinogenic effects of the substance. They discovered that, after ingesting it, the withdrawal symptoms of opiate (Opium derivatives like Heroin, Morphine, pain killers, etc) addiction disappeared and cravings were absent for a lengthy period of time.

totally scientific

Reasons for the disinterest in the substance are many, most noticeably that the substance is used only once or twice by a patient for it to be effective and permanent, thus the potential return on investment by the companies would not warrant the financial input.

so how much you selling it for?

Ibogaine has no addiction potential and is not used recreationally. The reason is that it does not enhance one’s social capabilities while using it – It has never attracted joy riders. It also causes nausea and vomiting and some other unpleasant side-effects with some users.

comforting

It has been established to be safe (Only ¼ of the dose that can cause damage to certain parts of the brain is necessary to interrupt addiction), except for individuals with certain medical conditions.

what? so 25% of what i ingest will damage my brain ? :erm: ... you kind of need those receptors in the brain

Upon arrival, you will be body searched (respecting your privacy – Male/Female, etc.) and your belongings will be scrutinized for any unwanted materials. All money, ID books, Passports, ATM cards, cellular phones, prescription and OTC medicines, drugs, alcohol, etc. will be removed and locked away.

In a South African clinic that going to administer a drug that can cause hallucinations? okay no thank you im out

You were watching Law and Order SVU methinks. Very interesting stuff. I wanted to start a thread about it after I watched SVU and looked into the stuff on Wednesday, but just never got around to it.

There seems to be a fair amount of corroborating evidence in its favour. There's even a South African group dedicated to ibogaine therapy - I wonder what their experiences are?

The stuff sounds trippy in a good way. I'd give it a shot just for the hell of it. The introspection aspect sounds intriguing...

I just remembered ibogane now.... interesting that I haven't heard about it in years.
it looked so promising, the success rate was like 90% where the methadone success rate was like 7%

IIRC its like a hectic trip... the trip to end all trips.

Don't be fooled by success rates. One is done in an outpaitent setting with a high volume. The other is done in aa tightly controlled environment. This is marketing at its best to make it attractive.

Methadone in the same setting will have a high success rate as well. The problem is the cost. What is you need to look at is safety

Hmmm I will get flamed for this, but if people in general don't have the willpower to take the fight to the addiction and beat it the hard way they will most likely just relapse. The exact same thing goes for dieting and abs, you name it.

Opiates quite literally rewire your brain, so it is not a simple case of willpower.
