Current import tax rates on clothing?

Hey guys,

I would just like to know if anyone has any information on the current tax rates on importing clothing? I ordered a t-shirt from eBay US worth R200. Today I got the confirmation that my shirt has arrived at the post office and that I need to pay R170 in import tax fees. Since I had to pay another R100 for shipping I was not happy to see that I ended up paying R470 just for a t-shirt. I just want to know how I can get an estimate for the future before buying something again? I was under the impression that the maximum rate is 45%. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the link! Glad to see I'm not the only one this is happening to but still this is really upsetting. For the remaining few years that I continue to live here, I will remember to not import anything again.

Haha yes but after having watched the news tonight I can't help but feel the same, but anyway was always hoping to move to Germany in pursue of a job after completing my degree.

The news will always be negative... but I guess some people do have legitimate reasons to leave (like finding a job, safety/security, quality of life, etc.).

Good luck! Germany is a decent, stable country.
