Custom IPSW Of Firmware 3.1.2(iphone 3gs)

Hey Guys

I recently had to update my iphone 3gs firmware to 3.1.2 because I had to force reset because of this I lost my jailbreak.

I am on windows so I tried using black ra1n but had no luck and tried every trick in the book with it

I am now wanting to try download a Custom IPSW that was made with the PwnageTool which only works with mac.

I found a site with the Custom IPSW(Link: http://jaxov.com/2009/10/download-custom-ipsw-of-firmware-3-1-2-for-iphone-2g-3g-and-3gs/ ) and would like to find out if I must download the one that says"Download the following files ONLY if you are on official carrier services (ATT etc)" or the one that says "Download the following files if you DON'T have any official iPhone contract with carrier services"?

What are they talking about? Also have any of you guys tried using a Custom IPSW?

I got the iphone from Vodacom and the only sim card ever used is MTN. In other words I didn't need to unlock the devise to be able to use MTN!

Download option 2 then, the reason for this is because of the baseband 'fix' Apple brought on with the newer firmwares.

As all iPhones in ZA is 'unlocked' you need not worry about it.

Thanks for the Help dragonfly if I downloaded the first one(which I am doing now ) will it still work?

The Problem I had was I would run make it rain,the devise would go into recovery mode and instead of seeing that guys face the screen would go completly black. If I left it after about 45min it would restart and nothing would have changed.

I googled the problem and loads of people are having it,I then tried all the so called fixes and nothing worked!

Personally I wouldn't load that firmware as I'm not 100% what would be the consequences of that.

Instead, I suggest you Google "Iphone Dev Team", they are the only legitimate alternative Jailbreakers to geohot and his blackra1n.

The iphone Dev teams work (Pawnage tool) only works on Macs However what the pawnage tool does is creates a custom IPSW which is then installed just like a normal Restore file.

I am downloading the"iPhone 3GS 500MB partion UNACTIVATED (for iphone with official carrier, and ability to have PUSH noitifications, BASEBAND will not be cahnged)"

The partition size is for Cydia apps that install files in the root but most cydia apps no longer do that according to some guys on the macrumors forums. The Baseband will also not be changed meaning it is a jailbreak only and you will not be able to unlock the devise.

are you talking about BlackRa1n RC3? I have tried RC3 with no luck

I dont understand it. I have tried it on Vista,XP and windows 7! I have also tried to do it multiple ways with no luck.
