Customers blame Checkers Sixty60 rider death on one-hour delivery promises - but he wasn't a grocery delivery driver

I get that, but in those circumstances I usually just make something else or I use a backup meal waiting in the freezer just in case.

If it's a real emergency I'll drive around the corner to get it.

99% of the time I'm buying groceries it's not an emergency. I imagine for you, if you think about it, the situation is the same.
Not so easy when you have a 5 year old throwing a tantrum that he wants pizza...

What did you do in the above scenario before these delivery services? Just curious.

Get in the car and go to the store.

But regardless, I don't really need sub 60 minute grocery deliveries... but just a reasonable time frame on the same day is sufficient for me.

Must admit I don't understand the need for the sub-60min delivery promise.

They're groceries. It's hardly an emergency. Just let me schedule a time for delivery so I can make sure I'm home and I'm happy. It doesn't all have to be immediate.

Scheduling deliveries is hellishly complex from a logistical perspective. Much easier just to do it asap.
I think the sub 60min promise is also there to make it more convenient than going to the Spar or OK around the corner.

Also, when your kid has a tummy bug and you are out of nappies, that sub 60 min is a godsend.

If i order ice cream or a bag of ice cubes, then I expect it within 10mins, not 60 lol. Not my problem if the driver annoys people, my bag of ice is more important than your feelings. :p

ok, here I have to weigh in..

Train the parents and rehabilitate the child..
Yeah I agree, and that's how it is with everything else. But I have a soft spot when it comes to food (not junk). It makes me feel good knowing that everyone goes to bed with a satisfied tummy, not dreading that they were forced to eat something they didn't really want to...

Haibo, like the other guy assumed, they don't pack the stuff and leave it on the floor and then deliver it 50min later, and you receive a milkshake and a bag of water..

You guys need to go and live in Somalia for a few weeks..

Well I'm more talking about letting me schedule a general broad range of a couple of hours. I do get your point however.

Fck that, why must I suffer because they don't have delivery service, or even food. I don't see billionaires stooping to our level because we can't drive Lambos...

You can set your delivery time, you're not forced to get it in 60 minutes...

Lol I've order a few bags of ice in the past, it always arrives within a few minutes, still frozen. Haven't had any ice issues yet.

I don't really order ice cream. Did order some Magnums once and they put heavy bottles of water on top of it, die dommies haha.

It will make your family a bit more resilient to scenarios where there is no pizza for supper..

Indeed. That's usually the option I use. I'm more saying, worded very poorly I'm afraid, that I don't ever really find myself personally needing the "get it here in under 60min" option.

So they pack it and leave it lying around for 50minutes?

They pack and send out as quickly as possible, the fact that they might only pick your stuff after 30min is something else.

Imagine you keep receiving thawed frozen food or as you mentioned, milkshake instead of ice-cream.
I see from your response below that you must have misunderstood my answer to the question of why the delivery time is urgent. I said because of the cold chain. Nowhere did I say it stands around after being picked etc.

I've done the same, and depending on the demand in the area, have received ice 30+ minutes later, still frozen. So they either pack the stuff FIFO or they have very frozen ice..
