To use this service you'll have to get 5 ADSL lines from Telkom?

you dont have to, but technically the company is able to put 5 lines together.... interesting. I wonder how it works

Considering it takes Telkom 10 months to install 1 line, who's going to take 50 months for them to pull their fingers our of their bum ?

This idea is so sad. I mean, what about ADSL2+ & VDSL? It's sad when companies have to bundle ADSL lines together. Companies should be running fibre. I guess that costs to much in this country. This is pathetic.

Well no mention of bonded ADSL package on the www tcadsl co za.

Few chaps in UK have implemented this solution for various reasons, mainly need to boost up link as there where most noticeable improvement in that arena.

Digest of the setup:
* Requirements
** Router using a ADSL bonding or MLPPP (Multi Link Pont to Point Protocol). Both on your and ISP side
** Linux router OS running off write protect USB or CD rom. (http://www.upstreaminter.net/bondedcd.shtml)
** Up to 5 ADSL modems

I've been running 4x ADSL lines (4mbit) with uncapped offerings for about 6 months now to alleviate the traffic on our 1mbps line. We basically direct all web traffic over the ADSL lines - it's a huge saving than going with a bigger diginet line.

We make use of a linux box as a gateway to the internet - it just routes based on service and/or IP range.

That headline is completely misleading. The article is about a single product that does nothing to alleviated bandwidth costs (more like an ad really). What it does do is increase speeds and set itself as an alternate option to diginet and the like. It has nothing to do with reducing the actual cost of bandwidth in this country.

Actually its not quite misleading. You have to consider the average company ... 1mbit/s line = R13,000 a month, 128k internet on that line (CIR) is like R6-8,000/mth.... thats R21k/month... or get 4x ADSLs = +-R2000/mth for the lines and then 4x 1024k uncapped accounts from like openweb = 10k - thats 12,500/mth and thus a decent saving. you have to look at it at a wholistic approach to connectivity in SA.

Should be entitled 'Cutting connectivity costs' or 'Cheaper alternatives to leased lines' or 'Broadband for companies, the South African way' :D

There is one drawback in the stability of the ADSL network, your diginet or MPLS lines are way more stable and Telscum give them priority in terms of fixing faults. They are supposed to have a turnaround of 1 hour on those likes whereas ADSL is always falling over and they fix it as and when they feel like it. So either way we are stuck with crappy cheap bandwidth or super expensive stable bandwidth

Damn ... dats some awesome stuff!!! This bonded lines really works, unlike eh eh eh some unlimited satellite ADSL's... hehehe. Dude I got a download average of 755KB/sec using the 2 line option. Now I know this aint no load balancing gimmick. Guys give it a try if you can, cos finally something works in SA for a change. And at least now we got some real speed... You gotta see this to believe it, cos we all know how much crap we are fed just to buy a damn service and when we got it, it dont work. But this ACTUALLY works. Great stuff TC .... !!!

Rocket-boy : I have a few diginets lying around the place, not a single one has a 1 hour turnaround time to be fixed....

Last time one went down it was down for 3 days before a technician even rocked up.

...and for the price you pay for a [censored] line you'd expect turnaround to be quick-quick...

why do most of the posts sound like advertising for using bonded lines?

I agree, they take forever to sort them out, their supposed time is 1 hour but in reality its another empty promise. We have had the same hassles with our diginets here and when they do send someone out they seldom know what to do to fix it :/

Yo 56K, my upload speed averaged at 600kbps. The part that shocked me with this, is that I used only 1 ADSL user account cos I was expecting some kinda catch like 2 lines = 2 accounts, but these guys left me speechless when they told me I needed only 1 account
