Starlink breakthrough for South Africa

Elon Musk’s Starlink is holding talks with the South African government to introduce the satellite service in Africa’s biggest and most developed economy, President Cyril Ramaphosa said.

Musk and Ramaphosa held talks over potential investments, the president told reporters on Friday.

Progress. I like it. Thanks Cyril!
If this turns out positively not only will it potentially mean a cost revolution in terms of internet access in remote locations but also potentially a countrywide EV supercharger network, Tesla cars and as in Australia and some other places huge grid batteries to stabilise the grid.

You just can never win with Mybroadbanders.

Folks are unbelievable. First, it was the BEE laws as the reason why Musk did not come to the country. Then there was the "business unfriendly laws."

Now that the news are that the president is engaging him, the government wants to eat and control.

Sheesh!

Granted, we have a corrupt government but sometimes you have to give a little bit of credit when something positive is developing instead of constantly moaning.

Reminds me of the excuses from the naysayers regarding Eskom now that we don't have loadshedding.

Anyway, it is a good thing for the country that the government has gotten involved, and for those who want the service from Musk.

Well, gotta play devil's advocate, and say good job Mr. Prez.
Unless there is this kind of top-level intervention, nothing will even happen as long as the cell phone companies are lobbying and being protected by their buddies in Gov.
It reminds me of Eskom suddenly turning a corner… very sus given the timing and the recent drop in ANC support.

Who wants to bet we’re going to see an ANC facelift for the next election… something on the lines of GNU and merger with DA?

Leopards can change their spots, but they don't usually... don't be a sucker, lots of rhetoric etc. going on.

Cyril is informing Musk that he may not colonize Mars as his ancestors own all that land.
