D-Link 504G Router help...

Anyone have any idea on how to set up the 504G router, I have recently bought one but the way its set up now doesn't seem right? In order for me to connect to the internet I have to actually dial an account from Windows/Network Connections/ surely that is not the correct and only way of dialling the net? I just got rid of my Planet router and I connected to the net via its HTML setup page, like most routers do. Any advice would be great
