Nice going old chap,

It's very encouraging to see that a networking hardware vendor is actively involved with the forum. We appreciate any contact with hardware vendors and your involvement provides all forum members with an easy way to bring problems to your attention.

By the way, I own a D-Link DSL300G and I can honestly say that it is probably one of the best investments in networking hardware I have made in a very long time. For a very low price, it's enabled me to use my FreeBSD machine's PPPoE client to establish a stable connection for my entire network. The modem has never given me any trouble at all and maintains an open connection at all times.

Plus, it looks really cool in my rack. [:D]

Keep it up.

Feedback about the DSL604+

I have been using the DSL604+ now for about 6 months and it works well. I only have a couple of small issues:

1. For some reason encapsulation changes from PPPoE LLC to PPPoA VC mux by itself, maybe 2-3 times a month.
2. The main setup screen has an irritating auto-refresh thing that makes it difficult to change settings.
3. MSN Messenger file transfers causes the router to freeze (I assume its UPnP related), although for other people it works, so I'm a little stumped about this one.

Some notes:

1. I've seen it branded as an DSL604+/G. Note that the "G" has nothing to do with 802.11"g". The router only supports 802.11b.
2. D-Link seems to have South-Africa specific firmware versions. Some clarification about where to find firmware updates would be appreciated.
3. I once had a problem with my ADSL line on a weekend. It was without question the line, but when I phoned Telkom to report it, they INSISTED that I first phone D-Link SA - very frustrating!
4. There's no setup instructions on the D-Link web site like for the DSL-300G and DSL-504G ;-)

Some things I like a lot about the router:

The port redirection stuff is simple to set up and works well.
The wireless coverage is incredible - I get 20%-30% signal strength (which is good enough) at 20m going through several brick walls without doing anything special (like mounting the router higher or adding an antenna).
Performance is on-par with the speeds reported in the "Speed Test" forum thread
