In a statement released, the party said they became aware of the DA’s complaint on Wednesday and said the video was taken five years ago while Maritz was still a DA councillor.

However, Smit says the time stamp on the video that was shared to the DA by a whistle-blower, clearly shows that the video was taken in 2017, whilst Maritz was the Limpopo FF+ Leader and a PR Councillor in the Mogalakwena Municipality.

“The whistle-blowers confirmed that this is when the video was taken and that the allegations by Maritz are not true. The witnesses in the video will also be submitting an affidavit in this regard with the provision that their identities be protected. We will hand the affidavit over to police and the SAHRC,” his statement reads.

That date could have been added or changed at any time. This is nothing concrete. The DA better have their ducks in a row and why must the witnesses be anonymous?

Framing people... police state. The DA will immediately lose me as a voter the moment this turns out to be nothing more than dirty politics.

Well you can't anonymously accuse someone of a crime. The identity of minors get protected, but any adult is openly identified.

In May 2005, he was indicted for fraud, murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and arson at the Mthatha High Court, and was subsequently convicted. In 2013, when Helen Zille was the Democratic Alliance (DA) party leader, the DA recruited Dalindyebo to join the party, despite his conviction, and at the time he shared the stage with Zille, Mmusi Maimane and Athol Trollip. The perception exists that he was recruited on the basis that he could bring votes to the DA in the Eastern Cape.

This development is having me questioning the politics at play.

The DA may very well be correct that this incident happened in 2017, but they are acting reactively to how their opposition is responding.

They release the video, the FF+ then say that they will investigate but that the incident is dated 5 years ago, the DA responds by stating that it happened 2 years ago... The next day we have a released EXIF date, which can be created or altered by various means, and that their witnesses will be anonymous. The same media outlet which I quoted earlier published last night that the person who recorded it and provided the DA with the evidence needs to be protected.

And they have also published the EXIF data screenshot, but other media outlets posted the video. Maybe the Limpopo DA is driving the story through the Review Online (or Northen Media Group).

I know, according to a DA statement, that Maritz’s was under review by the DA’s Provincial Disciplinary committee in 2015. The DA doesn’t elaborate as to how she contravened their internal rules, but Maritz then promptly resigned and took up a position with the FF+. I wouldn’t be surprised that this video is archived disciplinary evidence, which wasn’t used against Maritz back then, but is now used to launch a territorial campaign against the FF+. Conspiracy theory, yes, but 5 years ago seems to be close to the date.

They also report this to be a 3-minute video but is only willing to publish the middle. The context is selectively targeted. Yes, people want to see the ‘action’, but this is targeted.

Personally I don’t care about Maritz, it is a vile woman, to quote,

My problem with this is my rights and protection as a citizen. A Constitutional Democracy isn’t a police state, and when political parties can shoot like this as with certain other recent incidents then I need to be wary about my whereabouts in this country.

The woman said what she said, in privacy, and it was leaked 5 years later according to the FF+ or 2 years later according to the DA. A person provided the video to the DA and the DA published the video, as they say. Where she was employed at the time is important, the DA directed their swing straight at the FF+. This is the typical holier than thou approach.

Gossip can land you an R 200 000 penalty and or prison sentence. It is troubling.
