The FF Plus was informed today of a complaint that the DA wants to lodge with the police against one of the party's members for allegedly using the k-word.

The incident reportedly took place about five years ago when the member in question, Ms Marcelle Maritz, was still a DA councillor.

Ms Maritz denies having used the word and, therefore, the leadership of the FF Plus will conduct an internal investigation into the matter to get to the truth.

The FF Plus is strongly opposed to any form of racism from any side of society and will take strict action if need be.

Yesterday the Democratic Alliance Limpopo accepted the resignation of councillor Marcelle Maritz from Mogalakwena municipality.

Councillor Maritz resigned after being investigated by the DA’s Provincial Disciplinary committee for contravening the DA’s internal rules.

Any party is welcome to take in councillors who contravene the DA’s rules and who do not share our vision of an open opportunity society. The DA is a party of strong internal processes and robust internal democracy.

The DA in Limpopo continues to grow and to attract new members and public representatives. Just two weeks ago 1000 members joined the DA from the ANC in the Mogalakwena municipality.

With thousands of new members joining the DA, we do not stand in the way of one singular councillor who contravened the rules and wants to leave the DA.

Councillor Korny Dekker will be acting ward councillor until the vacancy is filled.

The DA would like to thank our members and the voters for their continued support in Mogalakwena.

Say this happened during Maritz's employ by the DA, why didn't they act back then? On social media, they targeted the FF+ directly.

We will tomorrow lay criminal charges against Limpopo @VFPlus Leader and Member of the Provincial Legislature, Marcelle Maritz, for using the K-word when referring to the APK Church as the "Church without K*****". There is no place for racists in our society.

This is going to have some entertaining results... You can't put your skeleton in someone else's closet. Then, again, the FF+ may also be using her prior DA employment as a diversion here. The FF+, however only mentioned it in their statement which I doubt many will read since I haven’t seen the media post it anywhere. It is now all pending on the video’s source.

The only winners here are the ANC and EFF. Well played, DA.

This was randomly thrown into their social media campaign today. This was Tweeted right between their suggestion to set up a Ministerial Commission to address violence and trauma at educational institutions and to take the Gupta cohorts in regard to mispresenting their BEE status to the court.

Why this warrants the DA time is to make a move on FF+ territory, but since this incident may have happened while Maritz was a DA member, 5 years ago, then this is coming straight back to them. The FF+ will be questioned why they have employed Maritz, but the DA will have to answer why they are only acting now. Maritz is already lawyering up and she may have the winning hand here where the DA may have purposely published the video.

According to the media, the DA supplied the video. This wasn’t randomly picked up through normal day to day activities. There is a reason why entities employ specialists like Bell Pottinger to launch such attacks… The DA may have misstepped here.

So many wrongs here, and I am questioning the DA's ethics and condemning a racist who may have already been reprimanded by her employer.

The DA will lay criminal charges against Limpopo FF Plus leader Marcelle Maritz, who is also a former DA councillor, for allegedly using the k-word which was captured on a video.

On Thursday, the FF Plus said it would investigate, while Maritz, according to her party, had denied the allegation.

The FF Plus in a statement claimed the incident "reportedly took place" five years ago when Maritz was still a DA member.

DA MP Beyers Smit, however, said that was "a lie", and the timestamp on the video indicated it was recorded "two years ago".

Maritz resigned from the DA in 2015.

Smit and Limpopo provincial chairperson Geoffrey Tshibvumo will lay criminal charges against Maritz on Thursday.

"The DA is of the belief that this horrific incident constitutes crimen injuria. It is also appalling that she would place such an indictment on the church," said Smit in a statement on Wednesday.

"Furthermore, we will be reporting Marcelle Maritz to the South African Human Rights Commission and we've already requested that the Limpopo legislature's ethics committee investigate this matter.

"The DA takes this matter very seriously as we believe that there is no place for racists in our society."

Smit said the DA found her racial utterances "abhorrent and unacceptable and we will not tolerate this behaviour in our democracy".

FF Plus MP Wouter Wessels said the party was informed of the DA's plans to lay a charge against Maritz.

"The incident reportedly took place about five years ago when the member in question, Ms Marcelle Maritz, was still a DA councillor," he said in a statement, which the DA has denied.

Maritz told various media houses on Wednesday she would not be commenting on the allegations, pending legal advice she was seeking as a matter of urgency.

According to the DA, the video's timestamp is indicated as 2 years ago. Is that the accurate time code, do they have witnesses and the video’s provider? They shouldn't lie about timestamps if they are indeed lying.

Whose dignity was impaired when she made the racial utterance? In fact, who distributed the video from 2-5 years ago?

I personally believe the DA may have made an error here of an opportunity they believed to be a power play.

Anyway, I will wait and see how this plays out in the courtroom if it ever goes that far.

It's many years since I read the book - Jock of the Bushveld - but I remember one of the characters, Jim the Zulu, using the word while encouraging the dog to attack some or other Shangaan.

Since the author is dead the DA might have some fun going after the publishers for any hurt feeling that may have been caused.
