You can request recordings of the conversation. They made an attempt of unauthorized repair and they will have to prove you have accepted it. If the matter goes to lawyers, you will know that onus is on their side to prove, but I think everything will be fine. Just don't accept any repairs in this situation, just replacement for a brand new one.

I dont want a brand new one. I need memory cos I run VM's for work, mine has 16GB and the new ones are only 8GB and can't be upgraded, apparently.

It makes it difficult... Just pretend you want a new one. When matter of memory limitation come out, they will be more likely to replace a new motherboard in Apple authorized service centre. It is what you want. This the only way to get brand new motherboard, not a second-hand imported from Ebay.

And in retrospect it's more about ethics than religion in this case.
I guess belonging to a religion be it Islam, Christianity etc makes you more ethical and behave morally correct even though something is not a crime.

Wow just wow, your an idiot if you think religion makes you more ethical or enriches your moral values.

Take it to Denis 021 510 5517

He does board level repairs and has been mentioned a lot here in the Mac section, he's based in Paarden Eiland just off Marine drive I think.

Got my Mac back. It seems to be running ok. Fridge service company did a good job in whatever they did. :D

Its booting and so far its running stable with VM running as well. Not getting too hot either. Must have just been something weird. I do have a nice new dent on the top cover though. Not sure if I should make an issue of that.

Thank you for the spelling correction, it happens at times when one types fast. I stand by my statement however.

Spoke to soon. At about 4pm its died again. Rushed off to Digicape and booked it in. This time I took a video when trying to boot it up. Techies at Digicape reckon its the issue everyone is complaining about with these 2011 models. There's apparently a lawsuit against Apple for it.

Logic board has to be replaced at my expense no doubt. I'll do that then i'll flog the thing.

Any ideas why this would only start now? Is is just coincidence that it happened on that particular Saturday night after load shedding?

At this point I think all I want to see are the words "Apple Authorized Service Provider" on the door of wherever I go. I've had enough. I just need my laptop back ASAP.

All the enquiries i've made on a used one have have resulted in replies like "Sold, sorry". Can't people just remove their ad off Gumtree once the item is sold?
