Damn taxi scratched my car

Life in SA I guess. Taxi went wham into my front left while trying to dodge traffic. The numbnut was completely to blame; I was going straight at 30km/h and the poepel came from the left lane into me.

The damage isn't severe with a dent and some paint missing; I've chatted to my insurance and because my excess is very high (by choice), it's not worth it to go through them. I'd rather repair it myself. I'm guessing it's going to be around R2K to fix.

Metro was on the scene as it happened, so I have a case number with 2 metro cops that saw how the cars were positioned. So no doubt I can blame it on the taxi, but what are the odds of getting the money out of him? Should I even bother? I know a few guys at work that tried to recover the cash and just ended with frustration.

Right now I'm thinking to pay it myself and be done with it. Would be nice to get something out of the fool but I don't know of any time and cost efficient way to do this. Any advice?

P.S Can anyone recommend a place to take out a small dent in Centurion? I got hold of ChipsAway, but when I googled their address I found 2 negative hellopeter reviews. Not so sure now.

You won't get the money out of the taxi drier, so don't even bother.

Now there's an untapped market. Start a business where you hunt down money owed by taxis.

Thought as much. FML.

You want to know what really, really grinds my gears. I got out the car ready to give this arse a fat PK, and he locked himself in his taxi, cowering like a lil beech. The moment the metro stopped there he got out, laughed, and thought it was a huge joke.

Just 5min alone...

Good chance the taxi doesn't even belong to him, so if you've got the details you could try and find the owner.

Sorry about the damage to your car. These jackasses don't give a fig.

Maybe being naive here: Metro was on site, case number opened and surely this should result in a criminal case/negligent driving etc for the taxi driver?

/uh well - just thought about it.... wishful thinking

Don't bother... Happened to a relative. Metro on scene, real phone numbers etc. Got absolutely nowhere

Try and contact the taxi owner, not the driver. Same thing happened to a family member of mine, the driver actually called the taxi owner on the scene, he arrived after 30 or so minutes. Gave all his insurance details and so forth and his insurance company paid for the damage caused quite swiftly.

I know this might be a 1 in a million shot but its worth a try

U won't get it but do still log a police case & claim etc. thing to remember when dealing with taxis is that the driver and owner of the vehicle are not the same person. Perhaps log a claim with the owner of taxi, easier to track, and let it take its toll.. In the end, the owner & not the driver is responsible.. The owner will try and pass the buck but really it's up to him to get the money out of the driver at his own cost.

I also had an issue, the idiot rolled into me, I hooted for him to stop but he "thought it was another taxi hooting". Spoke to him and the boss, gave up after 18 months.

Thought of 1 solution but never followed up on it, small claims court. Might be worth the effort

Some advice for you guys.

The owner's address and ID number are on the permit which is attached to the windscreen just like the license disk.

My sister drive a very very old beetle. A taxi came pass illegally daily, so she move her bumper deep into that taxi and made some decent damage. She felt very good.

Probably still worth a try... perhaps the owner of the Taxi would pay up.

On my way to work this morning, a few of the idiots were driving in the emergency lane and over grass to cut through traffic as usual.
One of them decided to slip past a bus and over the grass.
The fool ended up getting his back wheel caught in a ditch :D didn't look like he was going anywhere soon.
I call that justice!

Cought the whole thing on dash cam

Did this happen at corner du Toit and Church streets in the Pretoria CBD?
