Datacard Usage

Hi all

I'm trying to find a source to check my datacards usage online (similar to the adsl user stats). In the FAQ of this forum I found a link to the vodacom4me.co.za page. I'd rather not register with vodacom4me if I don't have to.

I have the standard software which monitors usage, but what I want to see is the actuall figures that vodacom will bill me on - not the estimate of a program.

Please reply if you have any information that could help me!
Thanks.
David.

The reason I didn't particularly want to register is that I'm using the datacard as part of a project I'm doing for a company (contract). There's 4 datacards to register and I think I'll have to clear this with a project manager now (yawn).

But since it the site is not 3rd party I don't see a problem. Thanks for the reply and welcome! :)

Checking 3G usage

Don't waste your time with the Vodacom4me website.
According the Vodacom - by using this site to check your billing, you are agreeing to indemnify Vodacom should the billing accuracy ever be questioned.

I was checking my usage on this site, and with the software supplied with the card (after updating it to make is more "accurate").
My usage came to around 400MB.
Vodacom billed me for 800MB worth of data. When I queried this, I was told in no uncertain terms that Vodacom is right, and the website and card software are wrong.

a 1MB email = 5MB - so pay up and have a happy day.

I have even been billed for usage when the card is unplugged - again pay up and have a happy day.

If you signed a contract when getting your data cards (ie you didn't purchase them with cash) then you probably already have an account at vodacom4me, once the contract is approved and activated you should have received SMS's to your data cards with your password to the vodacom4me site. If you purchased them outright, I don't know if you already have an account there or not.

1bit + 1bit = 10bits

I think Vodacom has gotten confused between Binary and 10 Based accounting.

There is no corrolation between the stats from the data card and that from V4Me website.

If one was actually being billed I am sure that you would have a 3-rd set of figures to confuse yourself with.

You get billed according to the data usage shown on the v4me site. It has been pointed out before that VMC doesn't count data properly, v3g even told us what the problem was (something about two different logs, and when vmc crashes something happens etc...).

I never use the usage counter that VMC provides, I use NetMeter, is is very accurate.

It's such a silly bug with such a simple solution, the mind boggles that it's not been fixed yet. Not that it's not been reported before....

Whenever you start a session, the VMC dash will count your usage, when you disconnect, this info is wriiten to disk to keep a permanent record. All very simple.

The problem vomes in when something else than a click on the 'Disconnect' button terminates the session. Now nothing gets written to disk and you loose the records for that session.

Solution is simple, write the usage data down to disk every minute or so.....

Until Vodafone fix this, best bet is to use another download meter, DUMeter, Netmeter, etc.
