Datapro connection reaching cap?

I wonder if anyone can give a bit of insight into a problem. We have an uncapped ADSL connection via Datapro and the international bandwidth has been dead since Friday afternoon. As I understand it, they use Telkom ADSL until the cap is reached, and then another connection. Could it be that the Telkom cap has been reached and no we are getting the Telkom trickle feed? I enclose a traceroute in case anyone can figure something from this.

Well, the 77 there might be the key. Telkom's ADSL subnet (165.165.0.0/16) is split in to two subnets. IP addresses in the range: 165.165.0.0 - 165.165.127.255 are capped addresses, and addresses 165.165.128.0 - 165.165.255.255 are uncapped. There may be some problem with your account where it might be seen as a Telkom account.

Please check the actual IP address you have. If the third 8-bit number is below 128, you are indeed capped, and should talk to Datapro right away to get the problem sorted out.

Data pro works the same os ODS. You will have a full speed ADSL line for 3 gigs when that is gone you will move on to a contendend line via a proxy given. This is made available from bandwidth bought by datapro(I think they work with IS, but don't quote me on that).

If you read the news section today there is an article on IS's problems with there international pipes there for people are getting very high latency. I would recomend to phone/email data pro as you should not get capped on a uncapped account. You should also just check your proxy settings too.

podo, the number is below 128, so I guess that we were capped from friday until midday today. I have a feeling that this is the second time that this has happened.

Pr13sT, we don't use the proxy as it is a real pain with some news sites. Might this be the problem? If so, then Datapro should warn people that the connection will reach the cap without the proxy? Actually, now that I think about it, someone else on the network who uses the proxy had the same trouble as us.

Thanks for the info guys.

uncapped ADSL is a myth and does not exist what does exist are bandwidth management techniques and loadbalancing to manipulate traffic or proxying [i sat in a meeting with datapro once discusing this possibility and feel they stole some ideas from me ... my opinion] the proxing option is not in ne way nirvana but web browsing and proxy capable protocols can continue to use a fair bit of bandwidth this is often less than the 512kbs capability of the link but far more than what telkom supplies...
