Well done to Datapro.

Datapro will be paying to upgrade there peering link to SAIX, this is a good approach, well done, putting the customer first.

IS you should take lessons. Stop the fight that will never be won and give your customer what they need.

I'd rather do business with a company like IS that at least has the balls to stand up to Telkom!!
This will be better (and cheaper) for all of us in the long term.
DataPro lack the commitment and energy to take this on!

Um - As far as i understand the IS <-> Teklom peering problem, it's not IS's fault cos:
IS upgraded the IS -> SAIX link.
Teklom did not upgrade the SAIX -> IS link.

Now - this means that a SAIX user requesting data from IS is happy as a pig in sheet.
But, an IS customer requesting data from SAIX is not happy.

So - dataPro are probablee going to end up in the same boat.

The circumstances may be different.

IS is claiming that SAIX users are clogging their link It may be that Datapro users are clogging the SAIX link.

thats fine.

But the ISP's were going to black list SAIX range of IP's and therefore push all SAIX users to go internationally for local content. which would stuff up SAIX, however it would also damage the ISP's

Remeber the old war between SAA and comair (remeber who won)

Not true (unless those are REALLY unhappy pigs). My connection from ADSL (SAIX) to IS would be faster with a carrier turtle. It has been a bit better this week, but it is still more convenient to download internationally, than from IS. As for remote connections to my server hosted there, forget it - before 8am of after 5pm you can expect to get some work done.

Hi folks

I have just spoken to DataPro and they are not upgrading the peering link. They have however upgraded/increased their local Bandwidth which might be why this rumour started.

Regards,

RPM

Rather cancel your SAIX ADSL and get an IS one. Much rather support IS now there is a choice.

No, SAIX would WANT that. SAIX (Telkom) make all the revenue from international bandwidth anyway.

What RPM posted

Just goes to show how many people barge into a thread, read the top and then reply, without following what happens underneath the initial post.

You can miss a LOT if you do that.

Gotta learn to skim through stuff ... that's how forums work

Except that the IS account still connects to SAIX, and still arrives at IS via the SAIX link.

I spoke with IS, and they confirmed that. What happens, is IS have given SAIX a range of IP addresses to assign to anyone with the ispxxxx@dsl512.isdsl.net account name.
So, the problem does not go away. This in fact makes sense, otherwise it would be easy for IS to give you a static ip - instead, they have to provide a router and then use tunnelling to achieve this (unless the techie I spoke to has his story wrong).
