ON my one trip home this week a question popped into my head.
what is the benefit of buying a FAW, or a Go, or a cherry over a good second hand car.
I understand the appeal of owning a new car is there, but would it not be a better long term decision to just buy a reliable second hand car rather than one of these?
I learned the hard way buying cheap is, new vehicles is a bad idea.
in 2012 I bought a brand new Big boy superlight. (chineese motorbike) I paid 24K for it.
in repair costs and towing costs I spent R28K on it in two years. I got rid of it for R9K and bought a 18 year old Yamaha. for R25.
a year down the line the Yamaha has cost me R4k in services, and I have done the same amount of Km on it than I did with the big boy. it broke down on me once. when the battery in it died, it was still the original battery so its not that surprising.
So with my experience I will never ever buy a brand my father could not buy when he was my age. I want reliability that stood the test of time.
in saying all of that, OP could you please explain your logic in wanting to buy new in this case? I am not trolling I am really interested.
