De Ruyter and Mantashe at war

Eskom CEO André de Ruyter is locking horns with energy minister Gwede Mantashe over South Africa's future electricity generation plans.

Sunday newspaper Rapport reports that Mantashe is trying to stop the Eskom CEO and public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan from binding South Africa to a radical shift from coal-fired power generation.

That comes after the announcement by US president Joe Biden at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) that several rich nations would provide funding of $8.5 billion (R133.5 billion) to South Africa over the next three to five years to speed up the country's move from coal to clean energy.

We just built 2 new coal plants. Our entire fleet is coal. Get what we have working before doing radical shifts away from it.

We are not bordering France or some other nuclear power nation that can help us out if there's no wind.

The only good thing De rayter has done so far is reduce Eskoms debt. Going into a considerable amount of new debt for unreliable grren tech is stupid.

If Mantashe builds two new coal plants, it will also be more debt, but considerably more expensive debt.

Yes Mantashe, we'll just continue with Eskom being the world's most polluting power company even though it doesn't work half the time. Screw the environmental concerns.

Do know that the renewable energy picture now, is very different from the renewal energy picture in 2010.

Lol that's compete BS. No way eskom pollutes more than China.
That data refers primarily to Sulphur dioxide which by volume is the most toxic pollutant. We use some of the dirtiest coal in the world. China switched to a combination of lower sulphur coal and installing desulfurisation systems quite a few years ago.

South Africa’s Eskom overtakes US, EU and China as planet’s largest emitter
