Dead sound channel

The lefthand sound channel of the computer has died, in that I get a crackling sound when I move the volume slider up/down. As it is part of the motherboard am I faced with getting a new seperate sound card to get proper sound back?

Might be your Speakers, have you tried it with a set of headphones?

If it is part of the mobo it is replaceable. I have the necessary tools and equipment to do this job for you
