Hi there,

Let me start by saying yes, I am aware that "decent wedding photographer" and "affordable" in the same sentence is more than likely a contradiction...but I figured I would try anyway! I am trawling the interweb trying to find a wedding photographer for August in Fourways. We have a really tight budget, so are having a small intimate wedding, but would like some good photos to document the occasion. However, having said that, we cannot afford to spend more than 10k, and even that is a complete push :(

I came across "Student Photography" who are based in Jburg...but I'm not convinced of their skills or quality, even though the price is pretty good! So I'm just throwing it out there - if anybody knows of anyone or if anybody on this forum is a budding wedding photographer!

It's just bloody scary how much this whole wedding industry makes (yes, that is a whole different convo that has plenty threads already :) )

They're not in Fourways, but they do travel (not expensive): http://www.yadah.co.za/ They did ours. Best pictures EVER, with better quality than photographers at double the price. We took the Platinum package, but I'm sure the cheaper ones will be fine. We got the photobook (exceptional quality), almost 700 photos on DVD, an A2 canvas print (best quality canvas print I have seen to date), some prints and plenty of edited pics. RAW available from them on request, AFAIK. Great people, send me a PM for more info (and our name to refer you by).

EDIT: They include a free pre-wedding/engagement shoot at a location of your choice, and from that you get a bunch of good pics. You can use those pics on invites or table decorations, like we did.

That sounds like an awesome option. I would look into it.

I can recommend my son. He is employed (longer than 10 years) as a videographer/photographer at a well established (>50years in the business) photographic studio in the Vaal Triangle. He also does freelance wedding photos and videos and recently acquired a new full HD Panasonic video camera as well as a DJI drone to enhance the wedding photo/video experience.

I am quite sure he could accommodate your budget and will be willing to travel from the Vaal Triangle to Fourways. If you want to, you can PM me so that I can give you his contact details.

Some awful photography in this thread. Just my opinion.

hey if you need any advise give me a shout about getting a photographer, I'm a photojournalist working full time for a newspaper pretty much shooting every day. I kinda know what this to look for and what not to.

Thanks all - found a lovely photographer who has given us a decent price! Appreciate the assistance!

Looks like I'm late to the party, but I'll play anyway.

He is willing to travel, and quoted me less than R10k for 8 hours / 150 edited photos plus engagement shoot. No photobook was included in that package (the one that includes it is quite a bit more). I'm sure you can specify it from him separately, of just do it yourself from Rapid Studio or Canon photobooks if you're so inclined.

As for how much the wedding industry makes, so far we haven't booked anything that we think of as unreasonably expensive.

Everything adds up though. It is kind of eye watering how much this thing will end up costing.
