So that's where Ramaphosa got the second term from.. Gweezy support got him re-elected so now as payback the fatty gets to pad that account with some Karpowership bribe money..

African leaders, still rounding their people up and having them tied up on the beaches waiting for the slave traders, its just different ships this time round..

The tenders released by the government were part of an emergency program for IPPs to supply 2GW of power from any method whatsoever for a period of 20 years. There were plenty of different methods submitted, LNG, LPG, wind, solar, batteries etc.

9 tenders were awarded including the 3 ships which made up about 1.2GW of the total.
No tenders to build CCGTs?

I understand why some people want to push back here, but we also can't have our cake, AND eat it, AND want it iced the way we want it.

If we're never happy with solutions, we carry on in darkness. Because the major overhauls we're hoping for are a pipe dream.

There is no cake. If we take the corrupt deals the country will sit with another deal emptying the treasury which is already in a bad state. Its a case of replacing one problem with another.

The emergency program was for any IPP to propose whatever type of generating technology they wanted. It could have been CCGTs or even a million hamsters in a big wheel for that matter :p
Gwede would have eaten all the hamsters so that idea would have been a non starter

Is it not cheaper, and more sustainable to build an OCGT that doesn't sit on a ship for 20 years ?

I mean, realistically it's just an OCGT plant, whether on a ship, or on flat ground....

This is going to end badly for SA. 20 year deal.. spiking prices...

But hey.. with the prices goes up beyond R10/kwh people would actually turn on the ANC. Might just be the catalyst for a government change.

Not with construction mafia on the ground, local content laws, BEE compliant suppliers, etc. Without all that interference things can be built faster and at a lower price point by an unhindered private sector.

The ANC is doing a great job in making our industries and labour market very uncompetitive compared to places like India or China.
