How can I decrease my line attenuation?. Mine is at 35db

35dB isn't bad you should be able to get 8mbit/s on ADSL2+ I have 32dB and I sink fine with ADSL1 and still have 12-13dB Noise Margin.

You should only start to worry if it gets beyond 45dB, because then you're going to start having issues when synchronizing at 4Mbps or above.

Well, two options:

1. Move, try get as close to an exchange as possible. This is probably the easiest, definitely not the cheapest.
2. Fix/improve the telephone wiring in your house and the copper telephone lines in your area. In any other country this would be the first course of action as bad line attenuation when you are 2km +- from the exchange is a fault. In SA, as long as you can sync at 1mb, its well within the acceptable range in the mind of Telkom.

cough:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 56.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 6.0 db 13 db

ADSL 2+

http://www.taccess.za.net/capture.jpg

*cough* I think I beat that ...

SNR Margin downstream: Between 12.5 and 14 db
Line attenuation downstream: 63.5 db
Data rate: 4096 kbps

G.DMT

Then again ... I have a very high noise margin, which is probably the reason.

Ok so someone explain how if you have worse stats than I do i still dont get anywhere close to full speed on g.dmt or ADSL2+

DSL Mode: ADSL2+
DSL Channel: FAST
DSL Upstream Rate: 511 Kbps
DSL Downstream Rate: 1971 Kbps

Down up
DSL Noise Margin: 13.4 dB 11.8 dB
DSL Attenuation: 44.5 dB 25.0 dB
DSL Transmit Power: 17.0 dBm 5.3 dBm

Good SNR, attenuation below 45(just)

ADSL Line

Status:Cable connected
Line mode:G.DMT
Maximum line rate:8128 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin:20.8 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation:32.3 dB (upstream)
Output power:10.9 dBm (upstream)

is this good?

Zimmy: those are only your upstream information and you didn't include the actual upstream data rate.
Your line attenuation is fairly high (which is bad), but your noise margin is also quite high (which is good), so you shouldn't have any issues with the uploads.

?mine?:

Connection Status Connected
Us Rate (Kbps) 128
Ds Rate (Kbps) 384
US Margin 23
DS Margin 30
Trained Modulation GDMT
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 21
US Line Attenuation 11
Peak Cell Rate 301 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 0
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Fast Path

If my downstream noise margin is 29.5 db at 384kbps what will it be at say 4meg and then 10meg?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 511 kbps
Line Attenuation 48.0 db 25.5 db
Noise Margin 12.3 db 14.7 db

I'm 1.5km from the exchange phoned Telkom and they said my Exchange was 10Mbps compliant but still no upgrade here. Even with such high LA my connection is pretty solid ?
