Hi, My friend who lives in Germany is looking to rent a dedicated server in South Africa, for his SA clients.

He is looking for atleast 100gb of traffic or more.

Can anyone help?

Just by looking at other hosting companies dedicated services, it doesn't look like it's going to be cheap for that amount of traffic. Most packages come with a standard of 5 or 10 gigs with R0.09 per MB after that. So as long as he knows that the prices here are really really high.

If he is interested, I will look into setting one up for him through my hosting company. I will have to do a bit of research first on pricing etc. With the current situation in SA I can't how ever promise anything just yet.

Will let you know on Monday!

don't bother going through a small middle man host. Speak directly to IS and Verizon. With that amount of traffic they will give you a far better discount than you'll get from one of the middle man hosts.

Sure, let's just kill the poor guy's business, gotta love the Telkomesque view on small to medium businesses in this topic.

Thnx Kasyx :)

I don't normally set up dedicated servers for people, especially not in SA. I guess I should start doing so and in that I was just offering to help. I will contact Verizon and IS to see what I can get and will definately be passing on the savings for such a high bandwidth server.

I'm not just in this to make money, but to provide a good service. So if someone asks me if I can help them, even if it's not a part of my normal packages, I will certainly try to help out. Besides I like learning new things and bettering what I offer.

With hetzner you will probably pay about R9200 for 100gb of local transfer. Will see if I can try to get something for cheaper. Like I said, will let you know on monday :)

Cheaper Bandwidth...

I must disagree with jontyB on his comment. I work for a hosting company thats been around for 10 years now. We do in the region of about 600 Gigs per month with all our servers situated either in the data center bryanston as well as our own recently commisioned data center in rosebank connected via fiber to the rosebank IDC.

We often beat even IS quotes to customers due to the rate we pay per MB transferred. The more we push, the cheaper it becomes for us and the cheaper it becomes for our clients.

Just something to keep in mind... :)
