Both the 1800 and 2300 bands are producing the same speeds in the Menlyn area. Ever since I played around with the Toolbox I'm getting 8mbps and then in peak times still getting throttled. We used to get 35mbps in this area last month, now it's all the way down. I guess I'll just wait for better days.

Shocking service. Not worth the R699 I'm paying at these speeds:

Is there a guide on what to do if you're experiencing slow speeds?

As with most other people on this thread, my internet is dropping down to between 2mb-4mb/s after 5PM, and it often stays that way until 1-2AM when it goes up to 45mb/s. Ping to Google used to sit at 30-50ms but now stays between 90 and 200ms most of the day.

I'm situated in Lynnwood Manor in Pretoria. I'm not exactly sure what to report from the Toolbox so I've taken a screenshot:

Tracert is so-so at the moment:

With regards to the physical towers, according to the map on the toolbox, there are no 4g Telkom towers near me but there are lots of Vodacom and a few MTN towers. I've got an external antenna about 5m above the roof but I don't think it's got line of sight to any towers. Should I aim it at any specific tower?

I'd really appreciate any help! So frustrating that I can't play any of my games anymore.

Have you tried forcing your router onto the 2300Mhz band ?

I have, it didn't seem to make any difference. My upload speed went up to 8Mb/s but my download speed stayed at 2Mb/s.

I have experienced same in Bryanston. When signed up about a year ago, got download of about 20mbps, now I get around an average of 8mbps. Strangely, this is also been accompanied by a decrease in signal bars on my router. Used to get 4 bars, now 3 (sometimes 2, weather dependent).

My speed has now decreased to a mere 2meg in the evening's. Going to have to try that antenna sometime.
Seems my signal has decreased as well. Used to get full bars (no antenna) now getting 2 bars.

have to chime in here as well. My internet speeds between 17h00 and 22h00 this whole weekend have been horrendous! i am in and LTE-A area and up until about 2 weeks ago used to get speeds ranging from 20mbps to 90mbps and a ping of under 50ms but this weekend i never got anything above 1mbps and my latency ranged from 200ms to 700ms. the internet was usable! I dont even come close to the speeds i used to get even out of hours. outside peak hours i get about 10mb and a ping of around 70ms. Whats even worse is i just upgraded to a bigger package so now i am stuck with this s**t for another 2 years. I am staying in centurion and I want out of the LTE package.

What the best way to report this degrade in speed to Telkom? Their 'Report a Fault' menu option available on their website once you've logged in does not even have an LTE radio button option? Is their an email address we can direct our issues to?

Telkom Sales is punting this hard to their customer base.

I receive a phone call at least once a week trying to get me to move from ADSL to the 'faster, better, fasterous (my word :) ) internet you can get.

Too good to be true? Seems that way...

Okay after playing about and checking something i did a tracert via my LTE router with Telkom uncapped package then i did a tracert via my axxess sim card which is on the MTN network. i got to weird results well the Telkom one was expected but the MTN one well it raised a few questions. Everyone is saying that Telkom is having congestion issues on their site. Anyways i did a tracert to saix.net

these are the pictures below well from two different PC's just to make sure. anyway on the MTN one you dont have any slow results at any of the hops even though its going to the same destination TELKOM SAIX. But with the TELKOM sim its just horrid all over. Could someone please elaborate on this for me or is this telkom just slowing us down on purpose

This is the TELKOM SIM UNCAPPED LTE Package test to saix.net
Tracert.jpg

This is the test to SAIX.NET via Axxess (MTN) both done at the same time around 9:10pm

Durban Saix speedtest as rosebank is even worse although im in PTA

Last Result:
Download Speed: 539 kbps (67.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2794 kbps (349.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 180 ms
Jitter: 940 ms

Hey man, in command prompt you can right-click, select all and then hit enter to copy. Just paste it in this thread in
Code:
 brackets like:
[code]
Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 1ms, Average = 1ms
Just makes it quicker for you, don't have issues with picture quality and MyBB doesn't have to keep the images for ever.
If you want to make it an image, hit alt and prtsc, it will only take the picture of the selected window. Save it in paint as a JPG and upload that.

Absolutely hilarious.

Getting 5mbps in the freakin daytime. It's getting worse.

I whatsapped Jacqui O Sullivan:

Me: I just wanted to ask if there was anything being done about the LTE speeds. They slow from 7pm to 10pm countrywide.

O Sully: Where are you based? We are doing some new builds at the moment due to increasing demand but I'm interested to know where you are so I can get the technicians to look at it, specifically.

So, I did that. And now my speeds have been the worst they have ever been. I used to get 35mbps+ in daytime. Now I get 5mbpss download and 11 mbps upload. Screw this.

How do I start Consumer Protection Act action against Telkom?

Are you from Pretoria?, where did you get Jacqui's number?, she is your best bet in getting this fixed.

I see she replies on tweets directed at her regarding LTE degradation but she asks each person she responds to, to email her. I can't imagine her having the time to action all those individual emails though. Hopefully she's got some really good PA's working for her?
