Twitter gets early win against Elon Musk

Twitter Inc. scored an early win against Elon Musk in its fight to make him complete his $44 billion buyout, as a Delaware judge agreed to fast-track the case with an October trial date.

Chancery Court Chief Judge Kathaleen St. J. McCormick on Tuesday scheduled the trial for five days in the fall, instead of two weeks in February as the billionaire requested.

The wheels of justice turn a lot quicker in the US. It will be an interesting trial.

The judge can't force Elon to buy twitter...can they?
That specific court (Delaware Chancery) has forced an acquisition agreement to complete after they buyer wanted to pull out - it was for a much smaller deal than the Twitter one though.

After that judgement, LVMH were also trying to withdraw from an acquisition of Tiffany's and Tiffany's sued in that same court. The case never reached judgment as LVMH realised that the decision would likely go against them based on the court's previous decision (as well as a substantial recovery in the markets) and they bought Tiffany's at a cost USD 15.8 billion instead of the USD 16.2 billion cost contained in the original acquisition agreement.
