Hey

I have a problem deleting a file.. very time I click on the file, my computer freezes, so there is no way that I can delete the file.. So I would like to ask, whether there is a way to delete a file without clicking on it.. (This would included moving it with the keyboard...)

I also tried dragging.. failed too..

And I did try CMD, like using "del" and then try.. but then CMD doesn't see it as a file.. so I doesn't delete..

obviously something wrong with the file. You need to run a utility to fix the file or the file system first. Then you can delete the file.

Alternatively you can try Magic Unlocker and see if that works, but it is a long shot.

Yeah .. I know there is something wrong with the file, I think it didn't download properly.. Where do I run the utility to fix?
is magic unlocker a program that I can download?

And if that doesn't work either? Then work can I do? Because at the moment, my computer is freezing all the time. it's really getting annoying..

OK, so what was the exact error message when trying to delete the file for the command line?

Try
del /F <filename>

or if the response when trying the above is that the file is a system/read-only/archive/whatever file, try using the -A: switch with the appropriate arguements (arguements can be viewed by entering
), as in

del /F /A:<arguements> <filename>

And one more thing - if you are using Windows Vista or 7, then you may need to run cmd.exe as administrator, ie: right-click the cmd.exe file and select the 'run as administrator' option.

Worth a shot hey... :)

Wil try that.. thanks for helping..

Well when I used the normal version..

"del <filename>

It said that another program is using it at the moment.. please try again.. (something along that line.. I'm sure you have seen it before..) anyway, but there is nothing using the program. (file in this case.. ) so I don't know what the problem is..

sigh..

You have rebooted, I assume? Try redownloading the file to the same location and overwriting the problematic file?

I will have to try that later, because I don't have international cap..

But I did try re-downloading the file.. it didn't want to replace, still said that it needs to shut down the program before it's able to delete..

sigh..

Really annoying..

Options:
Reboot in safe mode and try to delete
Rename file and try to delete and reboot.
Press ctr+alt and while holding down pres del. That will bring up task manager. Identify your file or the program that is using it and close it down in the Task manager and the try to delete.

If it does not work, I will upload Magic unlocker at www.torrentdiginova.co.za
The server is currently off line, but will put it up asap.

try over-writing the file ?

make a similar file in another folder, and drag that file to the folder where the corrupt one is, and over-write? worth a shot?

Magic Unlocker would totally work for him... if he knew what he was doing. I've had to do that with damaged files that I have downloaded.

Is it an actual file, or just an icon Windows has mistakenly linked to no file at all? That could be the problem.

I did also try over-writting the file, but it kept saying that there is another program using the file.. (but there was none, because I just restarted my computer.. and it said nothing on task manager.. )

It's a file that I downloaded.. It's a game... (an online game...) I don't know what went wrong with the game.. sigh.. I don't think there would be a virus, because I had scanned it before I downloaded it..

Well I'll download magic unlock anyway incase something like this happens again..

But all problem is solved!!! ^ ^

Thanks for all the help
